We had dinner at Ca La Montse following a recommendation from a guide who guided us on a free walking tour of the Gothic quarter My wife had a brown paella and I had a vegetarian one. We had also a pitcher of white sangria. The dinner was disappointing, the service was poor, we asked for two glasses of water... More

We had the €23 menu. It started with two plates of appetisers- a lovely jamon, a nice cheese, uninspired croquettes, nice tiny fish, mussels and prawns. Not bad, not great, hardly an inspired set of appetisers. For mains we ordered goat ribs with berry sauce: actually it was breaded and deep fried without a berry sauce but served on chips/... More

We came here on the advice of a tour guide. The staff was overworked and surly about it. The food was too salty. The fish in my paella was over cooked. And, about 1/3 of the mussels in my appetizer were not opened so I could not eat them. This restaurant is not living up to its potential. Where is... More

If you want authentic paella de marisco (fish paella) or valenciana or the typical Catalan noodle dish, Fideuà then come to this place. Locals patronize this place, as do tourists (that's how you know that it's good!). Great food at reasonable price: I visited in September 2016 and on a Thrusday had a choice of a first dish (I chose... More

The staff is surly and unpleasant. Service was slow with no acknowledgement or apology. The food was tasty but the treatment diminished the flavour of the food. With so many wonderful options in Barcelona this restaurant is not worth the time.

We were brought here after a walking tour of the Gothic quarter. Grumpy and indifferent service. We chose tapas. Grilled prawns in garlic, octopus with potato with potato, fried whitebait with a slice of lemon. All we have eaten before, all we've had better. For the price - disappointing sums up the experience.

Really not what we expected! The toilets and the plates were dirty (and broken). We ordered paella with pawns and lobsters for two persons. It was not well cooked, the lobsters weren't well cleaned and we could taste the sand!!! By far not the best choice for traditional local cuisine!

Barcelona is PACKED with places to eat and drink. And most visited, of course, are near Rambla and central sightseeing points. This one, however, is really one of the hidden gems. We literally have stumbled upon it randomly and it was, hands down, the best place we have eaten in Barcelona. Since it is further away from main tourist areas -... More

Had dinner here (Fideua - noodles paella). The meal was freshly made and tasted great. The cava sangria was delicious, with heaps of different fruit. The service was quick. Would recommend.

We found this gem of a restaurant by chance, the restaurant we had intended to visit was closed , so we wandered down the street and came upon Ca La Montse. This restaurant is set over 2 levels , the entrance level and a lower level. The entrance level was full when we arrived and had a great atmosphere, the... More

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
