So this restaurant is a must every time I go to Oviedo. This time I went with my family and then with friends. We had the duck ham salad with with mit cuit and it was to die for. My Dad had the pork trotters...with tiger prawns ( again: remarkable and tasty). The " Pote" ( traditional dish with kidney beans, greens and meat) was delicious . The sea bass was fresh and full of flavour and the duck confit was oh, so gorgeous that I regreted having ordered it to share and not just for myself. You can have a 3 course meal called " menu del dia" ( table d'hote)for just 11€ during the week. The attention to the detail not just by the chef, but the waiting staff makes you feel welcomed and looked after. There's a small communal play area outside that's secluded so it's comfortable to go with the family without having to worry.More
As always for me the best restaurant in Oviedo. Michelin star food at great prices and the best service offered I have seen
A must go in Oviedo, although not right in the hearth of the city center. Annalisa, the chef, is a super friendly person with great advices and culinary skills. Let them suggest you what to try, everything will be delicious! Prices/quality is excellent and service...is smooth and discreet.More
The restaurant is located about 2 km from the city centre. We had dinner there on a Saturday night. The food and service were excellent, and one of the waiters is fluent in English and was very helpful to guide us through the menu and...specialities. We had various croquettes and variously flavoured battered prawns with a guacamole dip to start with. For mains, we had the fabada and an entrecote steak. For desserts, we had cannoli and a home-made almond ice cream with hot chocolate on top. All dishes were excellent. We also had two vermouths to start and a bottle of rose wine. Coffee was on the house, which was a nice touch. We paid 77 euros (including drinks) for the two of us. Reservations are recommended. It is well worth making the effort to dine here.More
One only has to look at the cachopo I put the picture up to understand the quality of the food there. This place is really good....
We got there trusting tripadvisor previous comments. They were right! The space is not fantastic, but the food is very good and the service even better.
Cane across this restaurant in Oviedo having referred to TripAdvisor and we were very impressed! The food was of very good quality, extremely tasty and plenty of it! Went as a family, 2 adults and 3 kids. Shared the following dishes; chiperones (fried squid), croquetas...de jamon (ham croquettes), fabada (typical Asturian dish which consists of beans and a variety of pork meats, namely chorizo and black pudding) and iberico pork with chips and fried green peppers. All absolutely delicious! Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Cook even came out to ask people how they were enjoying their meals. Would highly recommend this restaurant!More
Very special place, cozy, inviting though it can be very busy at times which makes the service a bit slow but a great place to dine! Recommended 100%!
After reading all these glowing reviews, I was very curious to try out this place. This was a big mistake. The restaurant next door was full of happy locals, yet we went to Taberna Salcedo expecting something amazing. It was empty inside. The waiter informed...us that the grilled baby squid wasn’t available. So we ordered fried calamari instead. It was edible, but didn’t feel like a 16 euros dish, rather like a cheap starter. Callos Caseros consisted of a liquid with some lard and pieces of fat in it, I was hunting for traces of pork but could not find it. We ate just the chips.. The biggest surprise was on the bill - 4 euros charge for 4 slices of bread, which were dropped on the table at the beginning of our meal. Nobody asked if we wanted it, so how can you charge for something we did not order?? Sorry, I normally try to find positives in every place, but it was a truly dreadful experience. I am not sure if it’s under a new management, it didn’t resemble the place people were describing earlier.More
It was amazing fabada asturiana ! If you have plan to visit oviedo, you must go and try fabada here :)
Taberna Salcedo is a small tavern about 10 minutes walk from the city centre. It's not the first time I eat at this restaurant and it never ceases to surprise me with their service, professionalism and quality of the dishes. The food served is traditional...and the menu has also got some Italian dishes. The chef is Italian and the last week of the month they serve an Italian menu together with the "Menu del dia" and the " A la carte" menu. In our last visit we had squids " Salcedo style" which were served with potatoes and onions. They were so delicious I almost stabbed my brother with my fork to keep him away from them. I then ordered Mollejas ( gizzards) with a gorgeous, rich tomato sauce and my husband ordered a "Cachopo" which is similar to a cordon bleu steak, made with beef, Spanish ham and local products. My husband could not finish it ( it was huge!) and the staff, always accommodating, put it in a container for us to take away. My brother had the Italian menu and did not say a word until he finished each dish: all four off them were fantastic, according to him ( he didn't share :-( ). I did not have room for dessert but my husband had an egg flan and said it was the best one he has ever tried. My brother had the chocolate mousse on the Italian menu and he loved it as well. All the desserts are home made as well. At the end of the meal the chef ( Annalissa) visited all the tables and engaged herself talking to the customers. I believe that's a great touch and couldn't fail to notice that she was calling many of the customers by name. Having locals as regular customers is a fantastic sign! I strongly recommend this restaurant to anybody that visits Oviedo. It's reasonably priced and never fails to impress me so well done to the staff that are keeping up the high standards. We'll see each other again on my next visit!More

If my mother had been Spanish then she'd have cooked food like they serve here. Delicious. Very friendly and cosy Taberna. We had the traditional Fabada Asturiana which wasn't shown on the menu, this came in large bowl and was an enormous portion and delcious....Croquettas were delicious and the grilled Iberico pork too. No room for dessert , we walked 1.5 miles back to our Hotel to help it all go down. Definitely great food and excellent value.More

I ate dinner at the Taberno Salcedo one night in early May. My mixed salad and grilled hake were both memorably delicious, and the servings so large that I could not do them justice. I was made to feel welcome from the moment I entered...until I departed, and I enjoyed witnessing the liveliness and conviviality of the bar area from my comfortable table in the “back” part of this welcoming neighborhood tavern.More

Last night we went to Taberna Salcedo, really I should be saying we felt like we'd been invited into a close friend's home for dinner, and our friend was a Michelin Star Chef. This is a family run restaurant, husband runs the front of the...house and his wife creates fantastic, rustic delicately seasoned foods in the kitchen. From the minute we arrived we were treated like family, and throughout our stay it never changed, to the point of when we were leaving the wife came out of the kitchen and thanked us. The service and gracious feeling to us as Touristos, would have been enough for me to give it a good review but the food totally pushed it over the edge wishing there were more than 5 Stars to rate with. We opted to start with a couple Vodka cocktails and to say there was a generous pour would be an understatement he basically poured until you cried uncle. Then a bowl of her own magnificently prepared olives arrived that almost started a war as we fought over the last one. Second a board of toasted cruets appeared with these mysterious looking rounds which turned out to be her homemade anchovy butter, that was so good I could have just kept eating them and forgot about ordering anything else. We ordered a beautiful bottle of Jaros Ribera del Duero Vino, from there short but well thought and reasonably priced wine list. My wife ordered a dinner salad for her starter which could have fed 3 people the freshest of Lettuce and Tomatoes drizzled with some spectacular Olive Oil, it was Topped with what seemed like a pound of delicious Spanish Tuna, White Asparagus and Hard Boiled Eggs. I ordered the Foie with Peach Jam and Crushed Nuts and there was not a spot left on my plate just simply fantastic. Our mains were equally fantastic She had the Steak with Ham and Cheese which was a Steak Cordon Blu style recipe a generous sirloin sliced and stuffed with Iberian Hame and Asturias Cheese then ever so delicately breaded and pan fried to perfect light, crunchiness. I opted for the Grilled Iberian Pork, it was totally fat less tenderloins of Pork, but some how grilled to give them an almost buttery moistness with just the natural taste of the Pork as the star instead of being laden with spice. The deserts were reminiscent of my Cuban/Spanish grandmothers recipes Flan De Huevos and Milk and Rice Pudding. All this and the check was extremely modest by Spanish standards. Bravo Bravo and thank you for inviting us into your home.More
