We stayed with the family for lunch and had an all-round great experience. The ambience of the restaurant was extremely welcoming and stylish. All food was served appealingly and convinced with taste across the board. Particularly impressive was the noticeable attention to detail and the high standards of quality that were reflected in every dish. A restaurant that we can recommend without restriction!

The restaurant is really good. You should make an early reservation. The terrace is really good in summer.I personally don't like to dine in the fireplace room because it has no windows. That's a matter of taste. The food is good. I've liked to go there for many years. The prices are rather upscale, but the quality and ambience are right for that.

We make a point of dining at least once at this restaurant whenever we visit Mainz. The food is quite simply superb. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining. It is a bit of a hidden gem just off the main street in Mainz, Dishes are varies and inventive. Service if first class throughout. Cannot recommend highly enough.

We stayed with a larger group (all pre-booked for weeks) for a business dinner and drink together in the fireplace cellar. We started at 19:00 with drinks and greetings and then waited from about 20:00 for the appetizers, which then came to the tables around 20:45. Nice assortment of Frutti di Mare, sausage and cheese, and pickled vegetables. Unfortunately it took another almost an hour for the first food (there were three dishes to choose from) to come out of the kitchen. The dishes tasty but actually also very manageable. The veal paillard (which is usually thinly sliced)), was accompanied by 4 potato sticks it was however so thinly sliced that you immediately thought of carpaccio, no bite and definitely too little The pasta portion was ok, the fish too, The tiramisu for dessert was however first class. I won't reveal who but there were later participants who ate a snack. CONCLUSION: Location in the old town is nice, the fireplace cellar cozy but much too warm and very bad air, portions are much too small for the price, there are better Italians in the immediate vicinity.

The place has a nice courtyard, the ambience is good, the map looks good, but the value for money is absurd. I had the "big" vegetarian starters. The daruf found a few corners of Parmesan, a few lentils, a few olives... in total, a price of 17.50 € was claimed for minimal effort and an incessantly small portion. As I can see here in the reviews, I am not the first to notice this negatively. This is how gastronomy abolishes itself.

I visited Al Cortile with my wife who is from the Mainz area and our 8 month old daughter. My wife has eaten at the restaurant in the past as has some of her family in which they enjoyed their visit. Unfortunately for myself the same cannot be said and it is unfortunate as the food we ordered we both enjoyed. My wife had called the restaurant earlier in the day and asked for a table at 6pm and on the call she advised we had a baby with us also. On arrival we were greeted by an extremely rude man who despite seeing we had a baby and Pram never offered to help with the Pram (or ask a colleague) or say that we could use the ramp to the side which had been closed off. After struggling up to the top off the steps with carrying the Pram by myself the man asked my wife for her name and after searching he told her we only have you down for 2 people and not 3 people. My wife advised she did say over the phone that we would have a baby and he said well it had not been noted down on the list. If he had known he would have put us on a different table. I just found it very strange and his tone was just completely wrong and made a mountain out of a mole hill as we would say in the UK. In hindsight I wish we had just walked away as we were made to feel completely not welcome which having visited a lot of different restaurants in Mainz has never been the case before. In the end he passed us off to his colleague who was completely the opposite to the man who had welcomed us so poorly. He was very polite and kept our daughter entertained. Having decided we just wanted to have a quick drink and order our meal so not to hang around for very long we ended up just ordering a Pizza as we figured that would quickly arrive - I didn’t keep track exactly but it must have been close if not longer than 50 minutes for the Pizza’s to arrive. I noticed a couple who had arrived a good 5 minutes after ourselves had received and finished their food before we had even seen our Pizza. Most of not all of the restaurant seemed to have their food to be honest. The pizza itself was very nice and the service from our waiter was very good. He also allowed us to use the ramp with the Pram on our way out which was very much appreciated. I certainly won’t be making a visit to the restaurant again but hope the service on arrival for this particular individual improves otherwise I am not quite sure why he is the front of house for welcoming customers as no doubt more poor reviews will follow.

Very crowed and loud place. Food average but pizza was lousy. Long time between dishes. Owner being not customer oriented at all, making inadequate remarks. We arrived at 20:00, our booking was not tracked but we got a table though. We waited 1 hour between the starters and the main course. Waiters were nice but the kitchen was completely overwhelmed.

Lovely Italian restaurant in a historic street and building with a lovely outdoor courtyard. Great food and wine but their specialty is their wood fired pizza! Many combos to choose from. And for dessert, their “Sabayone” is an absolute must! Best in town and region!!!

We visited Al Cortile after a long day at work, to get some typical Italian dishes. We were not disappointed by our choice. Everything was perfect, from the food to the atmosphere. We were a group of six and ordered different dishes from the menu, that by the way offers a large selection of items (ranging from traditional pizzas and pastas to meats and vegetables). Each of us was delighted by his or her selection (and some of us are actually quite picky with Italian places outside Italy). On my side, I had a pizza, with a thin and crispy crust (which is exactly how I like my pizzas), that was simply delicious. We also enjoyed a bottle of Italian wine (as the menu only includes Italian wines) and a couple of beers. The service was very professional and there is nothing to complain about it. Moreover, we were sitting outside, in the backyard that was very pleasant and spacious. To sum up, this place is really nice and I definitely recommend it as a good Italian restaurant in Mainz.

We dines quite a bit in Italians on our travels but no restaurant come close to Al Cortile. The entire experience is unforgettable - great atmosphere (both inside and outside), friendly staff, efficient service and above all the foo is to die for - whether it's one of their pizzas from the wood fired oven and their superb pasta dishes. I's been over 10 years since we last visited, but like a good wine or cheese this restaurant just gets better with age. Definitely wont be another 10 years before we revisit. Cannot recommed highly enough. First class!

The pizza here is very good, and this is coming from a pizza lover who’s had it all over the US, including New York. The crust is crispy (wood-fired oven) and the sauce not too heavy. They have a wide range of veggie and meat pizzas, so the vegetarians in your group will be happy. They also have pastas and other mains. Prices are very reasonable.

Located in the middle of nice down town(Altstadt) Mainz, offer real Italian pizza, Entrée and Dessert! The ambient as well as the Guests is very good. The service is actually excellent! The prices are fair. In summer time, there is also the open air compartment with historical architecture!
