Typical German restaurant with good quality and affordable German food. Nice Haxe and Soups, good Beers, not so good wine and coffee. Excellent location in Nikolaiviertel. Open extensive hours. Customer service friendly but not really efficient: they forget serving some of the ordered food ( even with the restaurant almost empty) but still charge it in the bill. Not possible... More

The place is located quite close to the Museum Island which is a good thing after a day of sightseeing. Lovely interior (old-worldly), many locals (always a good sign), an extensive menu with hearty German dishes, a good selection of wines and beers, v friendly staff... Not much more one could want.

We stumbled on this pub on our first night in Berlin. The outside seemed old worldy which continued on entry to the establishment. We were promptly offered a friendly welcome and shown a table to sit at. The menu was fairly comprehensive and very much German cuisine. The food was reasonably priced and portions were ample. It was all presented... More

We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon. The place was quite full but we were given a table very promptly. Lovely decor and a very traditional feel to it - old fashioned and cozy. The service was super friendly despite the full house and the usual lunchtime hectic. We felt that we were treated personally. We both had goulash, traditionally... More

I really do not know what some of the other reviewers were writing about. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient and we had more than one server!! The setting was so old fashioned and cozy. The food was delicious! We started with potato pancakes with salmon and a horseradish sauce. So good! For the main course we had bratwurst,... More

Old style German restaurant which like the rest of the Berlin Old town was moved to its current riverside location and rebuilt to the original plan. All dark wood inside we originally sat in the bar area before looking at the menu and deciding to eat. The menu is traditionally German and the food was particularly good. We were a... More

On a very busy evening in Berlin, after trying to find a table for three in at least four other restaurants we were greeted with a friendly welcome here, which could not be said for some other restaurants we visited. The food was good traditional Berlin fayre with excellent beers to drink. We were very lucky to be seated near... More

The food was very good, and reasonably priced. The restaurant had a cozy feeling to it. The only negative to say about this place is it's staff. Some were outright rude towards some of the guests. Our waitress was OK, but not super service minded.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
