Stumbled upon this place looking for dinner in my new neighborhood. This place isn't very big, and tables are seated next to each other. The chef used to work at a Michelin starred restaurant so service, menu and approach to dinner is apparent here. I opted for the winter three course tasting menu for 45€ which included a pumpkin curry... More

After reading the reviews about Alpenstueck and walking past lots of other German restaurants, we decided to give it a try and I have to say the reviews were correct. This place has a refined charm to it however once inside, the ambiance is laid back and the service is excellent. It was easily the best schnitzel I've had in... More

My husband and I had dinner here two nights on a recent trip to Berlin - it was that good. Our hotel (i31) staff recommended it for its schnitzel, and we were not disappointed. The decor was sleek yet welcoming, the staff very friendly and helpful and the food delicious. They make their own bread, so don't pass on it... More

The restaurant is situated in quite and residential part of Mitte district and has nice selection of traditional dishes (schnitzel, fish, seasonal soups ) complemented by local wines. The meal was lovely and memorable, service was also very attentive. I highly recommend this place to someone who is looking for traditional dishes with modern interpretation.

We really enjoyed our meal here. The food was excellent and we got a seat even without a reservation. Decor was the right amount of cool and classy. Food portions were huge which is never a bad thing but I couldn't finish it all even though I wanted too!

The cool tones of the decor belie the warmth of hospitality and atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient. We were unashamedly only out for one thing: schnitzel. This was well cooked and nicely presented - maybe could have done with a bit more cucumber salad but that is my only complaint! Other dishes coming out of the kitchen looked equally... More

Having walked here from our hotel, we were not overly impressed when we first arrived. It appears as if there are bench tables and booths. We were first seated at the benches. Must have looked like a cheap customer! After ordering a bottle of wine we were moved to a booth. Service became much better. Food was actually very good.... More

Service was lacking as we had to wait 35 minutes to receive or order. Food was lukewarm when it arrived. We ordered three wienerschnitzels, all were dry, one was fried to a dark crisp. We showed this to the waiter who did not appear too concerned, but did offer to bring us a fresh dish. Due to the long wait... More

We absolutely loved our meal here - a highlight of our trip to Berlin. Refined, but relaxed. Highly recommended.

We went her specifically for the wienerschnitzel and the fact it listed home ingredients. It was a short walk (10 min) from our hotel on the day we arrived. It was a Wednesday and it was not a problem as we made reservations months ago. The main dish was excellent and our service was excellent too. The prices are reasonable... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
