I had just arrived in Berlin to visit a friend and she asked me did I fancy some Russian food. I was a little sceptical. My idea of Russian food was a little bland. Boy was I mistaken. Pasternak changed all my perceptions. My friend suggested we had the mixed plate of all the starters to share. When the food... More

At the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, this is a Russian (or modified Russian style?) restaurant serving a variety of Russian or Russian inspired dishes.

I didn't want to just have traditional German food in Berlin and wanted to try some of the eastern European flavours. Food was good but a bit filling. We had the Doctor Zhivago tasting menu which was a good choice - I'd love to have had the soups but this was a good compromise as there was so much else... More

Had an evening meal here recently and wasn't disappointed. It is a small quaint restaurant with a large heated outdoor eating area in front of the restaurant on the corner of a tree covered square near U bahn Senefelder Pl. Friendly waiting staff with passable English. The dual language easy to follow menu made ordering easy. Separate menu available for... More

We walked in for a late lunch and the restaurant was not so busy. The two guys serving were friendly, welcoming and the service was excellent. We ate lightly. I loved the soljanka (rich, tangy and perfect) with very good bread. My girlfriend had a mixture of potato dumplings/pierogi and these were also cooked very well. One of the waiters... More

I loved this place sooo much! If there were 10-star-rating I would give all the stars to this place! Very delicious! We went there for a buffet breakfast. There were plenty of food. And everything we tired was amazing! When I'm in Berlin again I will come back here! Loved it!!

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
