I wonder if Brecht liked to eat very big stakes or even the Brecht hamburger? Anyway, at first it was a bit difficult to find something proper among those large and very large meat portions. After a while we managed to find something for four of us, lobster soup, tartar, angus etc. The food was mostly very good, although one... More

Meat was great, but it's an expensive restaurant. Nice atmosphere, looking posh, largest wine glasses on earth, good for a business diner... I was totally upset about the cheesecake though! When I read "New York Cheesecake" at 7 euros a piece, I expect a real NY cheesecake, which requires 2h of baking... The stuff you don't make easily at home!... More

Food ok. Ribs we're a bit greasy and under-seasoned but it seemed under staffed and two waiters avoiding eye contact as they were too busy!

Sunny and cosy afternoon at river Spree. At Brechts they serve a wonderful beef tatare. I chose the fried sweet potatos. A good alternative to traditional french fries.

Good food, I had the ribs which were cooked beautifully, my friend had a steak, both lovely meals, but we felt it was a bit expensive, we enjoyed a steak elsewhere with the same quality for much less!

Our German friends had been told about this restaurant by a colleague so we decided to book. We were seated quickly and given menus but then things went downhill. It honestly felt like no-one wanted to serve us. Even several attempts from our friends did not even solicit someone taking our drinks order or even an acknowledgement that they were... More

We popped in here after a day of sight seeing, having been recommended by a friend of a friend. I suspect his information is out of date. The steak I had was absolutely delicious, as were the sides I chose (although the side salad with my meal was just OK). I think I was the lucky one, despite a vein... More

After a great weekend in Berlin we wanted a good quality restaurant for evening meal. Brechts Steakhaus fit the bill perfectly. The service was excellent and the food was exquisite. We had fillet steak cooked medium which was perfect and melted in the mouth. The bottle of Merlot was a perfect temperature and a delicious accompaniment to the steak. We... More

The restaurant is very well located, with tables outside and canal view! Service is very good and good food. I had a burguer with sweet potato fries. Tasty.

They serve food and drinks outdoors along the Spree. However, we decided to take advantage of the beauiful dining room on a quiet weeknight. Although they specialized in steak, we had the grilled tuna, which was nicely seared to perfection, slightly pink inside. The menu included a competent creme brûlée to end the meal. While there are many restaurants to... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
