Highly recommend this restaurant for traditional yummy food! Very common to find big groups mainly local families - it was recommended to me by someone who lived there for 4 years. Definitely get the Schnitzel, no questions asked.

We went here for my husband's birthday on the strength of the trip advisor reviews but were disappointed. The staff were rude, it was busy but it's no excuse for such poor customer service. They sat us right at the back on upstairs, which is like a weird old person's living room. lots of old furniture and random books. It... More

Food directly from German tradition. Everything is fresh and cooked at the moment and this may create long waiting time from ordering to reviving food. Consider that and don't worry. Beer is good! Prices are mid range

The reception and the waiter was very friendly. The restaurant is one big room though. High ceilings. Nice decorations but very very loud. I could barely understand the person sitting opposite me. The menu is full of real "altdeutsche food", rich in meat and very fatty. It tasted good but was at least three times the amount of what you... More

Good food (I tried the eisbein), excellent choice of beers (they even have the daily beers - means one new every day!) makes this place very good for a night out. Might be wise to book a table, it might get crowded.

We were a party of 3 for dinner. We reserved a table and arrived on time, at 19:30. Apparently in the inner part of the restaurant there was a private dinner party with loud music and the noise was really unbearable. We ordered beers which were served quickly and then placed our dinner order - Rheinischer Sauerbraten. It took one... More

My least favourite meal in Berlin. The restaurant is very atmospheric, shades of John le Carre and spy stories, I chose badly from the menu and didn't like the sausages I ordered. My friend had the sauerbraten and that was disappointing but the accompanying potato dumplings were delicious. As was the apple strudel. Service was slow and the restaurant was... More

Went here after thoroughly browsing trip advisor and reading the reviews. I'm glad we made the 20 minute journey as it was well worth it. They open at 5 and we just about got in. The staff were so friendly and although they were fully booked and had a band on that night they fit us in. We both had... More

Food was excellent as was the beer selection. Unfortunately they let themselves down by forgetting about us! from ordering to our meal arriving it took over an hour! Not great but the food was good and the waiter was a laugh so will let them off. Would have been nice to have had some money knocked off the bill.

Lovely kitsch german restaurant. Food was great, reasonably priced and the atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderfully kitsch without being over the top - you know this is not only a tourist trap. Would highly recommend if you want to eat some "traditional" german fare but want to avoid the generic places in Mitte.

Thank Leila V

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
