Nice location close to the castle. Average food considering the price and quality. The service has definitely room for improvement.

Visited Die Burgfreiheit biergarten on a very hot July (2017) day. Tables under trees and tents provided for some much needed shade. Food was good, cold Heidelberger Pils was better. Note: bring cash...they didn't accept debit/credit cards when we visited.

Located at Hidelberg castle (Schloss) entrance. The place is amazing, as you can see in the picture. Friendly staff and good food. I ordered schnitzel and it was delicious. Average price (€ 30 for two people).
Burgfreiheit gives you a nice break from the crowds at the castle. We ate in the beer garden so we had a nice view of the castle. The food is good, nothing too remarkable. The prices are average. The staff was friendly.
