Sadly with this being the home of the Black Forest gateau it's not much to write home about. The decor was as tired as I was after walking to the nearby waterfall. Staff were not very friendly and everything seemed too much effort. That being said if you can suffer the dreadful decor and the worst service, the CAKE is... More

I ordered two slices. One eat-in and later to go. Hot coffee with hearts drawn, variety of cakes and warm, friendly service. A bold dose of kirsch liquor, and a buttery fragrant wafer-thin base made the black forest cakes a memorable treat. We were introduced to the place by a local.

The Black Forest cake at this store is amazing. The cake is moist and flavorful; the cream is light and fresh; and the cherries are tart and plentiful. Lots of Kirschwasser adds a kick to the cake. It's worth a short walk down the street to find this little cafe.

My friends,my husband and I stopped by here after reading so many reviews about the Cafe and it's legendary "Black Forest Cake". The Cafe claims that their Black Forest cake uses the original authentic recipe. Personally I think that the cake is probably suitable for people who prefer cake with more liquor and definitely not for children. The shop itself... More

Very nice German bakery with homemade desserts and cakes. We tried the famous Black Forest cake as well as several others delicious treats. They also have excellent coffee. It's a great place for an afternoon snack! The food is good, but not excellent.

We headed to Café Schäfer from Höhenzollern Castle with just 20 minutes to spare before closing time. 5 of us, 5 slices left (but I'm sure more out the back). A lot lighter than I remember with the cherries having a lovely taste ... whatever they'd been soaked in? But quite Lecker!! :) Managed to park directly opposite on the... More

yes, the gateau here is delicious and apparently follows the original recipe. The Apple pie and Baked Cheese cake are also exceptionally good. The staff only speak german and don't like to spoil the atmosphere by smiling at tourist customers :)
