After an evening stroll around Orange after a long and difficult journey from the Alps, we spotted this place set into a 'cave' of the walls around the historic Roman Arena. It is stunning inside and there is lots to look at. Messages and autographs of opera singers decorate the walls. The lighting is very romantic. The food was fabulous... More

After finding many places kind of fully booked on Easter Saturday, this restaurant still had a few places available. The entourage was rather nice, except for a disturbing big TV screen that would take away your attention from time to time. The diner was really nice and the service was good.

What a place! Carved into the mountain, pizza was great and cheap too! Staff were helpful and the house wine plentiful!

Worst possible service experience ever!!!! Restaurant experience was ruined by the chronic rudeness of the owner of this restaurant. I would completed avoid this restaurant. There are plenty of other restaurants in L'Orange much better and I had a good experience in the town otherwise. The location of this restaurant is very good by the beautiful theatre and in the... Being next to the Roman theatre guarantees this place a clientele, but the reality is in its dimly lit interior is that is where the novelty ends and the realism starts, long waits on an average evening for average food and a wine list that borders on the absurd, price wise. We went there on a recommendation, I wont be... More

Our hotel recommended this restaurant 100% and they were not wrong. We arrived early in the evening and by 21:00 the restaurant was full. I had the 28 Euro menu that included: a huge and delicious slice of foie gras, veal rib with wild mushrooms. My wife went a la carte and had a good lamb rack. Their wine menu... More

We went there with friends and that was a very good surprise. Not at all a tourist trap, it is a true french restaurant right next to Theatre Antique inside a grotto. Very large choice of delicious wines and a cuisine of quality. The service is very good. Our lamb shoulder was nicely cooked and so tender... delicious. The ambiance... More

We found this restaurant by chance as we were walking in the little village of Orange. The restaurant is carved out of the rock face in the side of the mountain. The food is incredible and the service is good. If you get to Orange, this is a MUST DO!

We wandered around Orange and came across La Grotte Auguste. Liked the setting against the backdrop of the mountain with Roman ruins in the foreground. We ordered the menu of the day which comprised soup, lamb and vegies, chess escape in a berry coulis. The food was excellent, well presented and good value. Restaurant was not busy at lunchtime so... After checking menus closer to our hotel, we got in out of the rain at the grotto. Good choice! My wife loved the mussels and I had fish, both excellent. Atmosphere was interesting and the service was friendly and good.

Situated between the Theatre Antique and the Roman Temple, in fact if you eat outside you are eating in the Roman Temple! The food was surprisingly good for what I thought would be a pure and simple tourist trap. The entrance to the restaurant is directly from the Antique Theatre - we paid 16 euro each for a really good meal (plat du jour) in a wonderful setting
