Staff were very welcoming and helpful, spoke English if it was needed. Food was terrific. Veloute de Butternut was the best puree soup I have ever eaten. Supreme de Volaille was delicious. Fromage blanc with raspberries was wonderful. And barbe a papa took me right back to the county fairs of my childhood! Lovely dinner. I look forward to going... More

Having visited Avignon several times a year for the last 10+ years I have only just discovered this gem of a restaurant. I had tried to get in before without a reservation (big mistake) without success and so booking is a must. The greeting from the charming hostess/owner was warm and professional and the dining room elegant and spacious. We... More

We went for lunch recently and the food and service were really top class. Team that with the fact that we had the cheaper of the two set menu's and for the price (29 euros per person) it would take a lot of beating. We've dined in more expensive restaurants but the quality of the food here was comparable and... More

The wait staff was excellent. Food even better and the owner was charming. Make sure you have dessert.

For the same price as other places you can eat freshly cooked food in modern and elegant surroundings. The list of dishes available is short (always a good sign) and local and seasonal products are privileged. Wine on the expensive side, but you can't have everything!

We went with friends on the night of the release of the new Cotes du Rhone wines and the accompanying festivities so the restaurant was packed with wine producers having a good time. Service, atmosphere, food and wine were all excellent. Don't be afraid of the sardine and potato terrine, it is fantastic!

Restaurant L’Essentiel is a superb restaurant. We ate here 2 nights during our stay. We had the EUR49 menu both times. The food was delicious and looked fabulous. Staff are very friendly and the owner can speak very good English which is great if your French is a little rusty. The owner also had some wonderful wine recommendations. I would... More

We did not have a reservation, but walked in off the street. The owner quickly greeted us and said there was a table out on the terrace if we could wait just a moment or two. That was a start of a wonderful experience. The marinated sardines and potatoes terrine was among the best-tasting and looking "potato salad" around. The... More

food and service were great, but it was how warmly they treated each diner made it a special experience not only how we were treated but by watching how they treated every guest

Excellent French fine dining, the chef put in a lot of thoughts on each dish from the entree to main to the dessert; a must try! Price is very reasonable, 90 euros for two including wine. Coming from Singapore, I do not think you can get this type of quality French food at this price.
