A meal for two in this restaurant, a quality welcome, a cozy room and very comfortable furniture...a good start.
A gourmet starter, French toast, poached egg and chanterelles; really delicious.
A perfectly cooked sea bass and a varied and very tasty garnish; no more doubt, the cuisine here is perfectly mastered...and has a real signature.
A little dessert to confirm the very good general impression…a really very successful gourmet profiterole.
This €39 menu offers excellent value for money. Congratulations to the whole team for this beautiful cuisine and the excellent performance of this establishment.
I highly recommend this restaurant.

Le Bistrot de Claude is a charming place, where the warm atmosphere and delicious cuisine combine perfectly to create a memorable gastronomic experience. The dishes are tasty, the service attentive, and the friendly atmosphere makes it an unmissable place. I would come back without hesitating !

This restaurant was recommended to us by the owners of the B&B where we stayed for a few days. The recommendation was completely fulfilled. Excellent three-course menu with sufficient choice. The courses were served at a leisurely pace, including oysters, merlu and guinea fowl. A delicious warm tarte tatin (order at the same time as the starter and main course) and a café gourmand with 4 delicious small desserts. The wine list includes several top wines, the Sancerre we ordered was a direct hit. The waiter gave tips on how best to eat the oysters and spoke not only French, but also English and even a few words of Dutch! The restaurant is somewhat hidden in the old part of Cognac, but we were lucky that there was a parking space just a stone's throw away. Allow more than 2 hours to dine here. Price is slightly above average, but the quality is accordingly.

We zijn blij dat u ons driegangenmenu uitstekend vond en dat u de verscheidenheid aan keuzes waardeerde. We hechten veel waarde aan het serveren van elk gerecht in een prettig tempo, zodat onze gasten volop van hun maaltijd kunnen genieten.
Onze locatie in het oude deel van Cognac is inderdaad een beetje verborgen, maar we denken dat dit bijdraagt aan de charme van de ervaring. We zijn blij dat u zonder problemen een parkeerplaats in de buurt hebt gevonden.

Very disappointed. We are used to gourmet or even starred restaurants and we came to this one on Recommendation. After offering us and serving us an aperitif, we waited an hour to take the order. Nothing wrong with the service and quality of the dishes up to dessert except an error on a corrected sauce as soon as we managed to call the waiter. For dessert, the crèmes brûlée that accompanied the two gourmet coffees had turned and were absolutely sickening, both on the nose and on the palate. After we told him, the waiter noticed it immediately at the smell and hastened to return them to the kitchen. They replaced them very quickly.
At the time of the check, at more than 500€ for 6, no words of apology and no commercial gesture.
It’s all very well to use and maintain the reputation of the previous property owner, but it does, and it really wasn’t the case this time.

I live in France, have eaten in many restaurants here and have enjoyed many set ‘Menu du Jour’ lunch menus that have been not overly expensive and have comprised simple ingredients cooked perfectly with excellent service. Sadly today was not one of those occasions.
Do not be fooled by the ‘Poisson au Marché’ listed as a lunchtime option. Coming from a restaurant that prides itself on its fish and oysters I do not think it unreasonable to expect this would be a piece of good quality, extremely fresh fish, maybe simply grilled, a little buerre noixette or sauce vierge, accompanied by a few boiled Ratte potatoes and a vegetable garnish? No, not in this establishment, what was actually on offer was ‘fish and chips’ and a thoroughly disappointing version of it.
This was not intended to be a special meal out, just a simple, light lunch to enjoy in a nice restaurant before an afternoon of sightseeing. If we had wanted fast food I would have gone elsewhere and paid considerably less. What made matters worse was that we were mocked by one of the waiters who thought it extremely funny that the English had chosen fish and chips. Very unprofessional. Then unbelievably a customer on a nearby table felt it appropriate to join in the mockery. It was embarrassing and humiliating and an experience I would not ever want to repeat. As pescatarians I would like to assure the waiter that we would not have chosen fish and chips had there been another fish choice on the set menu and, in any case, once ordered we assumed it would be a refined version not the ‘freezer to fryer’ type of concoction that was served. The waiter and customer might have laughed but I’d like to turn the mockery back on the restaurant and say that today the quality of fish and chips even in the most modest English restaurant is far superior to what we had today. The English version, fresh, delicate fish fried in tempura or beer batter accompanied by three times cooked hand-cut chips that we have come to expect these days, is a million miles away from what was on offer today at Claud’s. The dry and unappetising chips, pale, soggy batter and grey overcooked fish ( coley?) was a poor representation of England’s national dish. It was a lazy, unimaginative money-making offering that was frankly an insult to English people like us who know better. Be pretentious Claud by all means but before you are it’s probably better to have something to be pretentious about.
A disappointing experience all round but as we passed many other lovely looking restaurants during our afternoon of sightseeing, thankfully, there will be absolutely no need to go back.

After a visit to a distillery where to go for lunch and in this cozy bistro. The welcome is warm, the chef has established menus with mixtures of original but extraordinarily balanced flavors. The service is attentive. The rates charged are reasonable considering the originality of the menus offered.

Well - what is to say. By far the best meal we’ve had in France. Deceptively simple and traditional dishes exactly as they should be. The salad dressed how it should be - the steak tender and juicy - the sauce well balanced and complimentary. Exemplary cooking!! (Lovely atmosphere and great wine list too).

My wife and I visited the restaurant on a Friday evening at the end of a week long stay exploring the Cognac area. We had visited a few eateries by the time we entered the door and had high expectations. We left after a fantastic meal with our expectations met above and beyond. Absolutely delicious meal, great attentive service and fantastic atmosphere. I won’t go into detail on the specific plates of food or the wine consumed suffice to say they were faultless and all at a very reasonable price. Thank you and we will return it back in the area.

C’est magnifique!!
We have struggled to find an authentic local restaurant during our trip and was recommended this one by our local driver. It didn’t disappoint.
Set lunch menu was fabulous and very fulfilling. Both fish and meat options cooked to a very high standard and more than plenty of it.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and it’s in a beautiful little spot just off the river.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and only wish we were in the local area longer so we could return for dinner.

Authentic cuisine of high quality and very pleasant service.
As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed.
The cuisine was impeccable, a tribute to well-executed traditional dishes. Each dish was prepared with care and stood out for its freshness and authenticity. The service was like the cuisine with an attentive and pleasant team.

From the first taste to the last exceptional food. Delivered hot full of taste and great value. A perfect balance of great food without extravagant price. Wine list a bit pricy but I found some nice wines that worked for price point. Explosion of tastes with the gaspachosoup
Not simple to find as many tiny surperlatives to announce your dinning experience.
From the huge Diallo of buratta creamed some dried crispy mint then below perfect balance of the veggies the size of each piece the deep smokie flavor of cheriso sausage was left in just long enough to cast a shawdow with nothing left to chew. The tomato a perfect balance of old ancient heirloom history.
The follow on was magnificent linguine with a creamy sauce not heavy just perfect taste. Covered with clams and mussels and even a nice touch of lobster.
Lots of desserts to chose from but we left to taste some cognac. All in all very much left a strong impression and last comment with similar experiences owner served us and everyone else running and delivering high quality. Frequently a sign of attention to detail and he did.

We were warmly welcomed at the door by Monsieur Claude and invited in despite not having a reservation. The staff are friendly, helpful. and speak perfect english if necessary. The restaurant is comfortable and the service was excellent despite it being busy. The entrée and the plat were very very good but the desert du jour was even better. We had the Charentais white wine from Lepontis which was also good and great value.
Several local people recommended Bistro de Claude to us and we are very glad they did. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we have made a reservation tomorrow for dinner.

We visited this restaurant last Thursday whilst holidaying in the Cognac area. We were greeted by “Momo” who immediately made us feel welcome and special. He provided us with a detailed description of the menu and supplied us with very helpful suggestions for our meal. The meal itself was one that we will remember for many years. The ambience, service and food was first class. If you get a chance to eat at this restaurant you will not be disappointed. Many thanks to all the staff. Colin.

I highly recommend ! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff is exceptionally friendly, always ready to advise and share a smile. In terms of cuisine, it's a real treat: traditional dishes with creativity, highlighting fresh and local products. The wines offered are also excellent, with a fine selection that will satisfy connoisseurs. In short, an essential place for a friendly and delicious meal!
