Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We let ourselves be tempted by La Pierre Chaude for lunch... A starter, main course and dessert menu for €17 with fresh, home-cooked products. A real delight with the orange chicken salad, fillet of saithe with leek cream and the raspberry financier. Very pleasant and friendly service. Don’t hesitate to book 👍

My partner found this when looking for somewhere close to our hotel The Mercure. It has a fixed price evening meal for around 23 euros or hot stones with pork turkey and beef for 25 euros. We both went hot stones. To be honest if we were to go back I would probably recommend you share one as there was plenty of meat, potatoes and mushrooms which left no room at all to sample one of their desserts. Really good value, away from the touristy centre but still easy to reach. Stopped serving 815 so get there early.

We went there on the advice of a friend and were not disappointed! Good welcome, the pierrade was well served with homemade sauces. The food was of high quality and the home cooking is evident in the taste. We recommend this little restaurant which doesn't look much from the outside but where the food is very good.

I ate here on a recommendation from a Saumur B&B in the mid-2000s, and when I returned to Saumur in 2019, this was a place I sought out because of my memories of its cozy decor, warm, personable service, and delicious homestyle food. I was happy to find that this restaurant retained its charm and quality. This time, I ate here with my young preteen and husband and they both loved it. We ordered a fresh chevre appetizer and la pierre chaude du boucher, which came with salad, bread, and an incredibly large and diverse assortment of meats--which we cooked on our individual hot rocks (pierre chaud). My son was absolutely thrilled by the experience. We had a delicate and delicious dessert with strawberries from the owner's garden. This is still my favorite place to eat in Saumur (and now the rest of my family's as well).

My wife and I tried the dinner "menu" of main course plus dessert. But before that, we started with a cherry aperatif which was sweet but delicious. The half bottle of wine to follow was not expensive. The menu, as opposed to a-la-carte, is limited in choice but very good value. My wife had the turkey, I had the salmon. Both were delicious. For dessert we both opted for the cheese plate, a generous amount of 3 different cheeses, served with vinaigrette lettuce to refresh your palate between each. A memorably delicious meal from a chef who knows what he's doing.

We had the 3 course dinner for 23 euros each. We both had the quinoa and chicken starter, and the pork for main course. Rice pudding for me and cheese for my husband. Excellent quality and enjoyed every bite. A short walk over the bridge to the other side from our hotel.

Lovely home cooking for a lunchtime in Saumur. Only the set menu at lunchtime but still a choice of 2 dishes per course. La Pierre Chaude pride itself on using seasonal produce and the meal was delicious. We tried both the choices for starter and main course and shared a dessert. With bread and drinks we paid around €40. Excellent find on a hot September day.

Seems to be run by husband and wife team, very reasonable prices, nicely spaced tables. A la crte menu more extensive. Good portion sizes. Great value considering what is offered on the other side of the river for tourists. Very handy if staying at the Mercure.

We needed a place to eat in Saumur and the TA reviews made this look like the best option. And it was very good, but I think to rave about it sets too high an expectation. The food was indeed very nice, without being exceptional. The hostess is indeed very pleasant. And the prices are reasonable. So I am happy to give it 4 stars and to recommend it. If you go expecting 4 stars, you'll be happy. 5 stars might just leave that slight air of disappointment. We did not choose the sizzler plates. We observed another table who did, and I think that it's best suited to people who value quantity over quality. When you cook your own meat at the table for example (which is what the sizzler plate does), you're seldom getting the services of the best chef. We chose other dishes, and were perfectly happy with what we received. I would go there again.

Can't rate this restaurant highly enough. Off the main tourist track on the island and all the better for it. Friendly welcome, lovely atmosphere, great food (only a small menu) and excellent value for money. Make sure this is on your list when you visit Saumur

We cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We had a wonderful meal at a reasonable cost. Just a stone’s throw from the Mercure hotel it was very convenient. Open on a Monday when so many restaurants are closed we were delighted. My husband had The rabbit and I had salmon. We both had three courses. The creme brûlée was superb.

A pleasant walk over the bridge took us to Pierre Chaud. We noticed some of the younger diners were attracted to the hot rocks menu, but we were more traditional. We started with a salad of cucumber, goats cheese and salmon, followed by pork medallions in orange sauce. Both were perfectly cooked and tasty. We finished with a selection of cheeses.A local Saumur Champigny went well with everthing. This was a very enjoyable dinner in a quiet part of Saumur.

As we had just driven over 500kms we decided to go to the nearest restaurant to where we were staying and what a great find it was. We were a little concerned that there appeared to be only one person in the kitchen and just one lady serving but we needn't of worried as the service was good, and very friendly. We both went for the salmon and goats cheese starter, very nice, I had pork, my lady had salmon, both cooked to perfection, for dessert we had panacotta with a strawberry topping and a chocolate fondant with lemon crystals, an excellent finale to a very enjoyable meal and incredibly good value!

Just had a meal here. We availed of the set menu - asparagus starter was definitely a highlight and we enjoyed our respective mains of pork and turkey. The meal, the wine and the coffee all very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.
