... but they are really delicious! If you have never eaten snails before, or your only experience has been of snails swimming in garlic butter, I highly recommend trying the plate of 12 snails served 3 ways - in parsley butter, in walnut oil and with roquefort cheese - absolutely delicious! If snails are definitely not your thing there are... More

I have been to this restaurant before but many years ago. I have often missed out on this one because it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, two days that I'm often down in town. I have a place about 20 km north of Saumur so know many, if not most, of the restaurants in the town. The restaurant is... More

The interior design of this restaurant gives a great first impression. Comfortably modern without pretension. Nicely prepared food — both visually and tastefully. We tried the duck and lamb. The wine list was well matched to the entrées and plat principal, with the Cab Franc being the predominant red grape in this wine region. All in all, great service and... More

We were seated in a small, intimate room at the rear of the restaurant. The tables and setting was very modern with clean lines. Service was good and attentive. We had a foie gras appetizer, followed by well cooked rack of lamb. The wine list was fairly priced. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing meal.

We were a group of three visiting for dinner on a Sunday evening, with reservation (recommended). Very modern interior, intimate without feeling crowded or noisy - not sure how they managed that, but they did. The ladies working were both very nice and had no problem explaining any answers in English. For starters we had escargot and foie gras which... More

This was within a short walk of our hotel and out of the main tourist drag but it packed a terrific punch for anyone interested in their food. We ate extremely well and 'madame' recommended two excellent local wines. With the friendly, welcoming service this is a place I'd readily return to if I'm in Saumur again in the near... More

My wife and I went to L'Escargot following a recommendation from our accommodation hostess. We were expecting a special night out based on the raves in TripAdvisor. I had a Red Mullet salad for entree which was fantastic. My wife enjoyed a prawn salad. For plat I had a Fillet Steak with Caramelized Onions and Potatoes baked in the oven... More

We really enjoyed our meal at Escargot. We don't have brilliant French but the waitress was lovely and helped us to order the menu de jour which was a triumph - and for €20 per head it was absolutely excellent value. Beautiful decor, excellent wine list and a beautiful ambience.
