Only eaten at this traditional French cuisine restaurant once many years before. There is a new Chef de cuisine, so we thought we would try this large restaurant near the port for lunch. Great ambiance calm but well patronised. I enjoyed a simple, but very well presented, meal of lentil soup and steak cooked perfectly. Accompanied by a 1st class... More

That night, I picked the Menu chateau, which was just perfect. For starters, I had the Fresh Salmon Tartar, which was out of this world. They served a large patty of chopped fresh salmon along with smoked salmon slices. Then I had the Casserole of the Fisherman, which was tasty, tantalizing, imaginative and flavorful. Great place, great food, and great... More

Went here with the family .... location is very central. The restaurant is big and very plush inside. Staff are friendly too. Food was good overall. Everything we ordered apart from 1 item was fine ... the mussels were filling and the portion was great, my daughters chicken was lovely too, even my wifes steak was great. The only let... More

We visited on a Friday night as a family of four with young children and had a mixed experience. Plus points, very friendly staff and a kids menu (something French restaurants don't do much of). My wife had a fish dish which was great. Down sides - chips were not good, kids refused to eat them which never happens, my... More

I can't speak for the rest of the menu but if you're in the mood for moules look elsewhere. The mussels were tiny, dry and what little taste they may have had was obliterated by industrial quantities of chopped onion. The frites were floppy, lukewarm and had that dark brown colour of chips that have been stuck back in the... More

Excellent lunch at this restaurant near the Chateau of Caen. The food was scrumptious, the prices appropriate, and the desserts were excellent!

We're here in October last year. Came back again before getting the ferry. Good choice on the set menus. Service was very good. Waiter spoke to us in English even though we started off with French. Good was still up to the standard of last year. Can see this being a regular haunt on our trips home from France

Beautifully situated in the centre of Caen, the Taverne du Chateaux offers excellent food choices. We started with the mixed salad of shrimps, langoustines and whelks and had a wonderful wild Seabass on lemon sauce. The winelist is adequate and affordable. The restaurants ambience is welcoming and the service very friendly.

We had just arrived that night in Caen after a long drive from the UK. After walking around for a while looking for somewhere that wasn't too expensive and at the same time, not too cheap, we settled on this place. I'm glad we did. 4 of us had a 3 course meal and drinks and the bill was less... More
