We ate here our first night in Lille on the recommendation of our host and I fail to understand why their ratings are as low as they are. We loved it and it helped to refresh us after a tiring day. The service and atmosphere...More

I enjoyed oysters and wine immensely here. The only reason I didn't give it an excellent is the service was pretty slow. For Le Paix has equally as good food with better service. But this is a bit more modern than Le Paix and easier...More

The restaurant is well decorated and nice inside although the tables are very close to each other! The menu is well assorted with an accent on seafood. There are some meat dishes in the menu. The people are very friendly and give good tips about...More

Lille has changed. Its been homogenised. The individual second hand shops of yesterday's old town have vanished, swept aside by a tide of bland boutiques and chain stores. You might as well be in Leicester and to crown despair, Le Huiterie has even gone. But...More

Came here still grieving on the demise of the L'Huitrerie mother restaurant where the poached cut of turbot was a classic.. the EdM 'scaled down' version sort of ruined the essence of that dish. All while wasting a perfect 5-6kg turbot rarity... you just can't...More

More upmarket than some restaurants. Good place to eat if you like seafood especially oysters. Food is well prepared but the coating on the cod was a bit unusual and the pistachio cream on the pavlova was too sweet. Stafff are helpful and on the...More

This fish restaurant is of the highest quality. Wonderful service and to watch the lobsters, oysters and the like being paraded out of the kitchen was quite uplifting. It certainly isn't a cheap place to eat, but I was so impressed with my sole, that...More

Description
L’Ecume des Mers in Lille lies near the Grand’ Place, just ten minutes’ walk from both train stations – and it’s open every single day of the year, even in August, so you are always assured of a warm welcome and fantastic seafood. L’Ecume des Mers (it means ‘sea foam’) is the younger sister of longtime favourite l’Huitriere. The smart marine bleu and white front leads into an elegant mezzanined dining space in cool shades of blues, greys and creams with soaring ceiling and tables arranged around a central bar. The menu, under the care of chef Christian Leroy, depends on the catch of the day, but usually includes oysters, fruits de mers and all manner of wild fish (only salmon is farmed) in dishes like skate in black butter. There are land-based dishes, too, and ten menus available for larger parties. Groups have the benefit of the upstairs Petit Salon seating up to 12, the Library seating up to 60, or the main dining room seating up to 100. A covered terrace comes into its own in the warm months. The intelligent wine list features a wine of the month available by the glass, pichet or bottle.
