Pretty good. Food was OK but it came incredibly fast after ordering....already ready or microwave? Anyway not disappointing. Wine choice perfect. Friendly english speaking staff (!). Heated terrace.

We have been in Paris for the past four days and have eaten at different Cafe/restaurants/bistro for brunch, lunch, and dinner and was fortunate enough to have some delicious meals delivered on our plate with today's exception. The decore inside the restaurant gives it decent style; however, that's where it ends. We ordered the beef tartar and fillet of gilthead... More

Thank you for your comment. We're very surprised that you didn't like neither our beef tartar nor our French onion soup as there are much sold in our restaurant and always enjoyed by our customers. We also regret very much that you conclude that we're a trap for tourists and state loud that we are not a " trap for... More

I and my wife selected the Jules Verne breakfast for 15€. The place was out of croissants so we were offered crepes instead. Bacon and eggs were good. Glass of orange juice freshly made and tasty, not very large glass though. American coffee was average, in size and taste. The athmosphere was nice and people were friendly. We enjoyed the... More

I love the Zimmer! The atmosphere, the staff, the food! I go there every single time I go to Paris. And I usually get the cheeseburger which is always perfectly cooked. In fact, I think I'm headed to Paris this weekend so might have to stop by!

Well, I suppose that I didn't expect all that much from a super-central restaurant, but we were late on the Saturday night reservation train and needed an option quickly. I made our reservation via La Fourchette without issue, and upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to a table in the back. You need to know: you are allotted... More

In the ambiance of a real parisien brasserie you can enjoy french specialities about 100 meters from the river Seine. The interior is a sort of " fin de siecle" decor, very pleasant while the personel who served the clientele were very friendly. About the food-quality we can say that it is not really sophisticated but quite down to earth,... More

Thank you for your nice comment. As you told Le Zimmer is a real parisian brasserie and all the team works hard to maintain a high quality of service : this includes the athmosphere, the quality of the personel and the food of course... We're glad that you pointed it out and we hope to welcome you again in Le... More

This is a beautifully set restaurant with equally as beautifully presented food. The dinner was excellent, prices were fair and the wait staff was superb. Convenient for us as it was almost across the street from our hotel - the Hotel Brittanique.

Lovely restaurant. Great food. Bustling during peak tourist seasons but they are always able to squeeze you in. Efficient and pleasant staff. Delightful!

Just after the war of 1870, Alsatian families wanting to remain French settled in Paris and created large breweries (cafés) according to their tradition: Le Zimmer, Wepler, Dreher, Bofinger and others still testify today. At its creation in 1896, Le Zimmer of the Place du Chatelet is the most beautiful of the three cafés belonging to the company of taverns Zimmer. The ground floor room with its elegant ceiling, differs by the finesse and sobriety of its floral decoration from other Parisian brasseries of the same era. An upstairs bar welcomes guests to chairs and sofas. The success is such that the establishment needs to be rapidly expanded. On the eve of the First World War, it developed on four levels. In the entresol, a dining room can accommodate one hundred and fifty guests. On the upper floors, lounges and private cabinets are arranged for more intimate meetings... The history of Le Zimmer is closely linked to that of the Théâtre du Châtelet: doors used to allow spectators to go directly to the ground floor room and the living room on the first floor. Le Zimmer attracts many artists and writers: Jules Verne, Emile Zola, Sarah Bernhardt, Gustav Mahler, Claude Debussy, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Richard Strauss, Arturo Toscanini, Edmond Rostand, Marcel Proust, Serge de Diaghilev, Guillaume Apollinaire, Igor Stravinski, Vaslav Nijinski, Pablo Picasso and many others attended this café. During the "dark years", the network of resistance "Honor of the Police" gathered in the vast basements where a cache, whose access is unknown today, would have allowed several families to escape the antisemitic persecutions . During the occupation period, Le Zimmer hosted some secret meetings of a network of police resistance. In this sense, the mayor of Paris and the prefect of police have affixed a commemorative plaque to the names of Edmond Dubent (commissioner of police and founder of the group "The honor of the police"), Charles Henri Porte (commissioner of police) , Paul Turgne and Raymond Boudier (national security police inspector), as well as Marcel Pruvost and Raymond Micheli (policemen), all were arrested in this place and then deported. In 2000, its owner, Jean Luc Gintrand, entrusted the renovation to the talented decorator Jacques Garcia who was able to restore an authentic soul to this place full of history and thus make the Place du Chatelet one of its finest Parisian café.

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
