We had a couple of burgers which were really nice. Speedy service. We don't speak French and the staff made an effort to speak a bit of English which we really appreciated. It's not a fancy place but we are finding the prices in Paris a bit expensive and this place was no exception. The smoke in the air was... More

The food plentiful and very tasty. The staff is great in customer service. I have had the opportunity to catch some great jazz sounds. And, I've participated in the fun as well. This is a favorite spot to acquaint yourself to hearty food, drinks and social atmosphere.

Just don't eat here, anybody would do better than their cook. They obviously don't have one, but the prices are as high as any good place.

I went here couple of times this month. The food is good. Not so expensive. One time it was very cold so we sat inside and the other time it was quite sunny so we enjoyed the terrace. It is very close to metro Pere Lachaise.

Called in here when walking from the Père Lachaise Cemetery for lunch on a Sunday. We were quickly shown to a table but it was clear that the staff were a little bit rushed. That said the food was OK and there was a decent range of snacks and main meals covering a wide food range. It was reasonably priced... More

"Menilmontant" is the name of a famous song by Maurice Chevalier that sang the praises of his part of Paris. The modest bar-restaurant is just north of the world-famous cemetery where Edith Piaf and so many other great names are laid to rest and a short walk from the little-visited small apartment where Edith lived at the beginning of her... I'm usually wary of restaurants that are close to popular attractions and that have a pun based on that attraction for a name... But in this case, this was a pleasant surprise. "La mère lachaise" is just a few hundred meters away from the Père Lachaise cemetery. The menu is pretty original for a parisian bistrot, and the meals are... More

Empty at 6.00 pm, busy after 8pm. Mix of offerings from Burgers to French. 95% locals Cocktail hrs including Margaritas ( in Paris) ! go figure... More

We were at Mère Lachaise on a late Sunday afternoon and took a salad with chicken accompanied by a glass of Champagne. The wine list was surprisingly good for the small brasserie as was the meal. The service was OK. We thought that the prices were very reasonable.

I went to this restaurant with a French friend. I wasn't sure of the menu but she suggested the Carbonara pasta. Wow! It was excellent. The sauce was thinner than you get in the states. It was creamy without being sticky. Very light. The Bayonne ham was generously sprinkled on top with extra cheese. I was unable to finish it... More

Staying in Belleville / Pere Lachaise

Neighbourhood Profile
Belleville / Pere Lachaise
At the eastern edge of Paris lies Belleville / Père Lachaise, an understated wonderland of local treasures. Alongside the world-famous cemetery, family-owned delicatessens and cafés nestle between local stores and establishments. The richness of the population here has created a little Chinatown of Asian restaurants, and the area comes to life at night by a funky underground scene. Façades change from one street to another as one passes from white walled provincial homes to tall blocks and reconverted homes. The whole area is an inspirational mix of people from all corners of the world frequented by artists, students, immigrants, and Parisian families. Once home to supporters of the Paris commune, its rebellious nature is now offset by its rural charms.
