This is a historic French place, very affordable, founded I believe in1896. Not fancy - it reminded me a little of Musso & Frank's in L.A. The waiters were fine, I don't get the complaints. They got the job done and apparently it's part of a trick there that they don't even write down the orders, except on the table... More

We went to the restaurant yesterday. We were three people and one friend was not hungry so he just ordered a drink. A waiter (in whole black uniform) came to the table twice, being extremely rude and saying we took their seats for NOTHING and we should just get out ASAP. WE ARE ASTONISHED. However, the nightmare hasn't finished. Finally,... More

After going to this Paris institution, I understand the appeal. It has atmosphere. A couple notes on the experience: First, this is a cantine. That is the French spelling of canteen and means cafeteria. Yes, the food is prepared in advance and kept under heat lamp. The food is fine for a cafeteria. Second, the prices are cheap for full... We returned to this place 20 years after our first visit there, and it is as good as always. They even have English menus now. They are always full, which is a good sign. We .had the duck, which was excellent, and of course the creme de marrons, Highly recomended

I had been to this place as a kid many years ago and was in the area and thought, "why not take a look?". It was exactly as I remember it from about 35 years ago, with the classic decor, waiters arms piled high with plates and orders written on the table cloths. The menu also seemed familiar and didn't... More

Le Bouillon Chartier was founded more than 100 year ago and had only four owners. The food is of decent quality and not expensive. The interior is great with people usually sitting side by side at tables for 6. It's not fine dining in any way but food has home cooked feel. The service is quick and efficient. There's no... More

We were given a recommendation to go to Le Bouillon Chartier, but the meal was lousy. We started with a pitcher of sangria and some bread. Both were great. But then, things took a turn. We ordered 2 frisee salads that were smothered with a heavy mayonnaise. The dressing was an insult to the light-as-a-feather chicory. My son's chicken was... More

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
