We enjoyed this meal (we each ordered different steak dishes), but the brie starter was the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, they brought it out with the rest of the meal.

Le second empire is a nice restaruant, located in a busy corner of the busy street that leads up to Centre Pompidou. The ambiance is that of old world luxury, but the food itself is of the more common pizza/pasta variety with a few added items. For a Paris restaurant, the prices are quite alright, and the food is nicely... More

Stopped here on a Tuesday evening whilst spending an unplanned night in Paris. The food & service deliver more than the menu outside suggests and at good value. I enjoyed a tomato & mozzarella salad to start with skinned half tomatoes on top of beautifully soft mozzarella. Finished with basil leaves and drizzled of pesto & balsamic glaze it was... More

Wandered in after a cloudy day of museum hopping. The reception warm and the onion soup sealed the deal.

The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The food was exceptional and always delivered with a smile. This is a place I would recommend for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do not bother looking anywhere else!

I happened to walk past this old fashioned café, on my way to a business meeting. Rather freezing, I was in bad need of a hot chocolate, therefore walked in. Good surprise with a hot chocolate served in the old fashioned way, no powder, real cup, pot of hot milk at a fair price. Setting is comfy, old style too,... More

We just had lunch there and everything was great. We speak no French and the waiter was wonderful to our family. We had pizza, chicken burgers and spinach ravioli. We were all sharing our food because of how delicious it was. We finished up with the chocolate lava cake. Family friendly, wait staff friendly, delicious lunch and priced reasonable. We... More

Apart from the fact that one waiter seemed to serve 40 to 50 tables, the place was pleasant, the food not bad (we tried a terrine, a french burger and gnocchi with mushrooms; each one good in its kind) the wine really good and the final price acceptable, given the very central location of this brasserie. DON'T try the tiramisu:... More

How the French put up with this level of grimness - I really can't fathom. The worst salad Nicoise I've ever eaten. And for the 'bargain' of €14.50. A bit of tinned tuna, a couple of quarters of tomato, no potatoes, a tiny sliver of anchovy and too many green leaves and bland left over beans. Why a poached egg... More

The waiter was really rude and service was slow as well. Seems they aren't really fond of non-french speaking people. Thus overall experience was not so good.

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
