Opened in 1740 Au Chien Qui Fume has become the temple of Parisian brasseries. An historic monument. Au Chien has just the thing & it follows it. First all servers are very professional. Second they propose a classic and casual cuisine. We took onion soup, crayfish ravioles, roasted rack of lamb, sea scallops in Noilly sauce and rhum baba. Tasteful.... More

Have known of this place years ago but did not visit until recently when we were in the Les Halle area and were looking for lunch. Had bulot, oysters, sucking pig stew and wine. Served by friendly and welcoming staff throughout. Try it out and you will be very pleased.

We hesitated before eating there as some reviews were not great. However, we were pleasantly surprised and had a delicious meal and had no problem with the service (which was good). I will not hesitate to return next time I am in Paris (the escagot casserole is wonderful).

We were staying at the Novotel-Les Halles and got a recommendation from the hotel concierge. It was close to the hotel, which was a great location for our first dinner in Paris, as we were too jet lagged to go far searching for food. The place had a cozy feel and the service was just right--attentive but not intrusive waiter.... More

We were looking for somewhere nice to have dinner and stumbled on this establishment. What a joy to find. Lovely staff who looked after us really well. Their lobster ravioli was to die for, as was the whole sea bream. Just a perfect evening for dining with friends in a delightful restaurant.

'Au chien qui fume' is located on the place where once the house of Moliere stood. Today it's a nice restaurant, with a fun name and interior decoration inspired by the dogs the once owner of the place had almost a century ago. The Les Halles neighborhood is nowadays one of the loveliest and liveliest place in Paris. Unfortunately food... More

Very unfriendly and totally uninterested staff and owner. As if they run the restaurant against their own will. The food is served without any flavour. We didn't really complain but indicated that the rice was dry and side dishes cold. The owner therefore decided not to talk to us anymore, took willingly our money but didn't bother to say thanks... This restaurant is located near Les Halles. It was recommended to us by another restaurant waiter as we asked him the restaurant that serves oysters. I took fois grass as starter and oyster as main course. The food was very good and the ambience was very nice. The waiter was nice and friendly.

Service was wonderful, waiters was friendly! Food was only ok. Steak is a little over cook and fries was not freshly fried. It was soggy!

Adjacent to Les Halles the meal we had was excellent, perhaps the best we had on this trip to Paris and very reasonalt prioced particularly given the location.

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
