Just read other reviews and glad to see there are good ones as the night we went was awful. Perhaps staff called in sick leaving staff numbers down? Our meals were served so late, my friends fish was cold, another friends dessert had a long hair in it, we waited forever for drink orders. We left tired and hungry. Hope... More

Located in the heart of the old Latin quarter of the City this is a wonderful place if you want a real Parisian night. You are seated in an old cellar, great atmosphere and a real Parisian Menu. Musical entertainment (guitar and accordion players/singers) sets the night off when the wine is flowing!. A really enjoyable evening on every level... More

Any tourist in Paris would welcome trying traditional French cuisine. L'Escarmouche is a delightful little place, quite a long semi-uphill walk getting there but you will not regret it. First, the ambience alone is perfect: the walls, the lighting, the table settings. Second, there was a surprise musical entertainment (guitar and accordion players/singers), a little too long/loud though. Third, the... More

This cute little place offers some really authentic French foods. We had a lovely time eating snails and frog legs. The mains however could use more decorations. Good flavours overall. And the music band is a highlight.

I went as a member of a Coach Party on a weekend in France. This is the second time I have been to this restaurant, and I was not disappointed! The food was "Par Excellence" with a great Menu with several Starter, Mains ,Sweets choices, Wine flowed as fast as you could drink it (Beer as well), soon as a... More

We were there as part of a group and we all had a fantastic evening. The four course meal was delicious, but it was more than just the food. The atmosphere of the cellar room was perfect and beautiful; the waiters were personable and helpful. But the musicians were the highlight and we all had a lot of fun. Just... More

This was an optional extra, the farewell dinner. What a fabulous night, great food, great entertainment, free flowing wine and beer, always helps. Superb location and venue, if you get a chance this is well worth a visit.

We visited this restaurant with an English tour group. It was a great evening with friendly staff, a limited menu, but characteristically French. There was a choice of 5 starters, 5 mains & 5 desserts and unlimited wine.. Musicians sang and played the guitar and accordian, which made it feel really French, but they played songs from around the world.... More

L'Escarmouche is a great place to dine. The restaurant staff was warm and welcoming. The underground dining area had an invitingly warm and cozy ambience, and as we were seated, the wait staff went to work and were soon taking our orders. Soon after the appetizers came out, our orders followed. The food and wine was excellent and was complemented... More

Not only the place was mind-blowing as if you enter the underground pub scene in Inglourious Basterds (2009), the entertainment was exceptionally entertaining. I have not laughed so much for so long that I literally cried while still laughing. One older gentleman with a guitar rocked the place entertaining over 30 people, this makes me wonder if people come to... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
