You NEED to come to L'Ancrage. The place is beautiful and the service perfect. The food was amaaaazing and not at all expensive for a good restaurant. For €24, you get 8 oysters, an assortment of seafood, and cheese or dessert. The wine was also inexpensive. Best restaurant experience we had at St. Malo.

Nice seafood spot for dinner. We got the set menu for 24 euros (oysters, seafood main and a dessert). The oysters were very good, the sole was fantastic (some of the others seafood was just okay). Decent wine selection. Might be touristy but in the low season it was an enjoyable dinner. Another nice touch- we really loved our waiter-... More

I can't say it was abad experience, but was one that I don't want to have again. The staff is not very friendly, the prices are too expensive compared to other places that serve similar food, nothing special about the taste, and some of our orders were forgotten. In general you can go there if you have no place else... More

We visited st malo in mid-October, and dined at L'Ancrage twice. Both times the food was superb. It is located on the south wall of the old town, in a street of cafes and restaurants near one of the gates. We chose this restaurant because it was busy while many of its tourist-trappish neighbors (crepes or moules and frites, over... More

When entering you notice a strang smell, which has been mentioned before in reviews, but it soon goes. Had set meal 24 euros, 3 courses, fish soup, moules & frites(hand cut), and dessert. First class food and service although portions could have been bigger, but I suppose that's fine dining!

We ate a very good and reasonably priced meal here, under the ramparts of the old town. Not having booked in advance, we were seated in an enclosed terrace which was a little cramped, rather than in the main dining room. Nevertheless we were warm. We chose from the 24 euro set menu which proved very good value. There were... More

My wife and I stumbled into this restaurant last year in St Malo when our first choice was not open. We were blown away and this year when we returned to Brittany we included St Malo in our itinerary so we could dine there again. Great oysters can be had in many restaurants but their mussels are not only super... More

Whatever some visitors earlier said: we are ourselves quite critical and had a good dinner here! Complete nonsense to term this as a tourist trap. The plat fruits de mer was fresh and chilled, the moules were excellent and so were the fries. Old fashioned, French décor and friendly service with madame la propriétaire herself checking if you are allright.... More

and glad we followed it. Made a reservation in the afternoon for a table by the window. Popular local restaurant. Fish soup, oysters, fish dishes, desserts all very good. Attentive service. Reasonable prices.

We really enjoyed our visit. There are many restaurants in this popular area of St Malo and quite difficult to chose - a bit of a lottery. We were lucky and had a really good food presented by a friendly and efficient staff. In a town renowned for it's seafood restaurants this is a good choice. We will revisit when... More
