THE best fish and chip supper ever! Great atmosphere, very attentive waiters. Pricey but absolutely worth it!
THE best fish and chip supper ever! Great atmosphere, very attentive waiters. Pricey but absolutely worth it!
No St andrews trip is complete without a go round the Himalayas putting green and a follow up of a fish supper from Tail End. Sadly, the tail end may not be as good as it use to be. The fish was the greasiest we've...ever had from there, and was very tasteless... Unless you count an over oily batter as flavour? The chips tasted like they had been reheated several times, making them dehydrated and lifeless. At around £12 for a fish supper, you expect a to get something decent. Hopefully, this was a one off and it's better next time!More
Had a takeaway today. Unimpressed with 2 girls and a guy on counter. Obviously guy was new and it took 2 girls to watch him. I asked for a lot of salt and vinegar on suppers. 3 times I had to ask. Guy never lifted...his head. Two girls watching him ignored my request too. Luckily I had sachets in the car. Fish was tasty, small but tasty. Chips a bit on the cool side. Very disappointed as it cost just under £24. Standards slippingMore
Spotlessly clean and great service - North Americans know how to look after customers. Grilled Halloumi and crispy potatoes were excellent. Chicken goujons loved by my daughter but the star of the show should be the Haddock and Chips and whilst it was good, nothing...more, the fillet was small, the chips were made up of around 20% almost scraps and all tiny. Portion size is poor for a £17.95 price tag in a casual restaurant with plastic chairs. In the past it was far better value. Drop the added service charge. Let the customer decide.More
Dropped in here following recommendation from friends. Shared a starter of mussels then we had a fish and chips / mushy peas, and a fried prawn / salad and chips Food was good and portions fine. Only issue was long wait for main courses and...had to remind staff we were waiting, Having said that, staff were very pleasant and chatty.More
Stood in queue not too long, had ordered fish and chips and scamp and chips, waited 10 minutes, not too bad, took them home a 5-10 minute drive, chips were cold, wife enjoyed the scamp but the fish had a horrible taste, like not fresh,...ate a couple of mouthful and a few chips wasted almost £12, I was left with a horrible taste in my mouth and a night of indigestion, supposedly the best chippy in town I don't think so, I for one won't be back.More
Totally disgusting 🤢 and from a place we highly recommend before which is the most disappointing part 🤬that’s the last three meals that have been more than disappointing they have been disgusting 🤢 the first bad meal Was just after they went to cook with...vegetable oil and we thought it was just the difference in taste but the last two have been even worse 🤬 and the meal we just had today at 5pm was totally uneatable and was given to the seagulls who were reluctant to eat them as well 🤬from being highly recommended to totally disgusting 🤢 🤢 🤢 I wonder if it has new owners because it has lost a loyal customer 🤬🤬🤬More
I’ll start with the positives, chips - they were average, not the best, not the worst either. Now that’s over, a fish and chip shop should have good fish but theirs was dry and small. The peas were completely inedible, like bullets, clearly left hanging...around for too long. The service wasn’t great, very little engagement from staff. No one asked us how our meal was. Forced 12.5% tip on the bill left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Yet another chippy with a takeaway attitude that’s using restaurant prices. I dream of better!More
This was a return visit,we normally come here when we're in StAndrews, the food was great as usual. The one thing that really bug's me is the addition of tips to the bill. In the 37 years I have in the restaurant and catering trade adding...tips to the bill is a big no no,tips are given by the customer not added at 12.5 0/0 this is just daylight robbery, what's more how does the customer know that the staff are getting the tips, you have lost a returning customerMore
Restaurant as part of takeaway. Huge queue to takeaway. Good sign. Fresh fish and shell fish looked excellent. Had the grilled halibut. Super
Queue for takeaway was huge, decided to try and get a table inside. Wish I hadn't bothered as the food on offer was well below par. My partner and I opted for two full fillet fish and chips and a pot of tea for two....Battered fish was mostly batter and two rather medium sized fillets. Chips were a mixture of fat ones , scraps and small ends. The breaded fish my partner had was very thin and her chips were mostly scraps..complained about the chips and were reluctantly given a bowl of mixed chips , scraps and ends.!!! Total bill was £46 which included a service charge of £5...this is another creeping Americanism I absolutely abhor.... tipping should never be mandatory.!!!! Will avoid next time I'm in St Andrews.More
Used to be great here. What a disappointment. Sat in and ordered 2 fish and chips. One was battered and instead of it being a whole fish it was 2 heavily battered tiny fillets of fish. Hardly any fish, mainly battered. One was breaded and...was the thinnest, smallest fish I've ever seen. We had gone for the £17.95 full fish suppers and had expected 2 decent sized fish. What a rip off. I didn't get any normal sized chips either, it was all small scraps of chips, none more than an inch in size. When I complained the girl looked at me as if to say what do you want me to do about it. I asked for decent chips. Someone returned shortly with a bowl of chips and sadly it was a bowl of scrappy chips again with small pieces. Not one actual proper chip in sight. When we asked for the bill they had the cheek to add a service charge of £5 odd!!! We had one pot of tea between is. So a fish supper and a cup of tea worked out at over £23!!!!! Poor portion. Poor quality. Never again will I be back here. Don't know what has happened but this place has went very downhill and should be avoided. Staff were very uninterested in me complaining and could not have cared less. AVOID!!!!!More
As regular customers at the Tailend, in Dundee, we didn’t hesitate suggesting the St Andrews one, when meeting friends, who were visiting. Sadly, the experience was very disappointing, overall, falling very short, compared with the Dundee offering. Admittedly, it was busy, on this early Friday...evening, but having succeeded in catching the attention, of a young Waitress, in order to take our Order, our impression of perfunctory service, just grew stronger, as the evening wore on. Our Drinks and Meals arrived quickly and we felt that the food was as good as the Dundee offering, but sensed an atmosphere of “let’s free up this Table, as quickly as we can”! Our Bill arrived, almost as soon as the last Dish was cleared of food, and we were even reminded, a few minutes earlier, that we still hadn’t asked to settle up. As regulars and accumulating Tailend points, we were disappointed to note, that the Waitress didn’t even prompt us to register this circa £100 Meal, on the App. Like another Reviewer, we did notice the unusually high number of Staff Members, and a lack of organisation, but in particular, a Front of House Manager, who appeared on the Floor from time to time, but without a hint of any desire to communicate with his Customers - again, in total contrast to our experiences in Dundee. Having dined in the St Andrews Tailend, a good few times, since it opened, we have to agree, that standards have slipped alarmingly and as the Town has a plethora of alternatives, we are unlikely to be back.More
This must be the 4th time I have bought a takeaway for my family and the App is not working. Total spend of 4 visits £200 plus and no points. Frustrating.
Called in without booking for lunch. Place very busy and some people decided not to wait but we got a table. We both ordered fish and chips, mine in batter and my wife had breaded. Portions were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed what we...had. Small point and this has been mentioned by others. Garden peas were a bit al dente but did not spoil our meal. Have been here before and no doubt will be back again. I would recommend this restaurant.More
