The restaurant is more cafe standard than fine dining. With melamine style plates rather than crockery. The food however is the reason to come. I am led to believe that the dumplings are a speciality but due to food constraints of my wife we are off the main menu. The banquets looked good but again dietary constraints meant we had... More

Not your run of the mill Chinese restaurant - this is the finest Chinese in Edinburgh which is renowned for its dim sum. We tried 5 different varieties - all of which wee excellent and supported by noodles and a chicken Drinks service was a bit erratic - but that's probably due to how busy it was - overall though... We had the £9.95, eat all you can lunch. Great value! Tasty food - it is freshly cooked too and not like a buffet with mass produced food. The dumplings are good and many different kinds. Good service too.

It is with great regret I write this. I have regularly visited Chop Chop for many years. Our recent experience on a whole was poor. Our order was wrong. Tables were cluttered with dirty dishes for long periods of time. At one point, there were x7 delivery staff standing about for take away orders. I feel, this expansion has been... More

This restaurant has been on my "must try" list for months and eventually got there - pleased to say it did not disappoint. The spring rolls and chilli chicken dumplings were amazing, main course was North Chicken which was a fresh crisp spicy take on a sweet and sour with spring onion and ginger! Well worth a visit !

We popped in to see what we could get as a takeaway for our stay at the hotel opposite and very pleasantly surprised to find this amazing Chinese ! Their menu stated they do not have chemical additives or MSG or rubbish in their food, and boy oh boy you can taste the difference. The pricing was reasonable and we... More

I've been a regular chop chop customer for several years now, and I love the food. However, my experience last night was not up to standard. I booked a large table for my birthday, and had even popped into the restaurant a few days before to ensure the numbers were ok. When we arrived there were not enough places set... More

Had the Xmas lunch here. It was good value and very tasty. I'll come back again. Decent selection, not expensive and good quality.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
