I was happy to find Hanam's was within walking distance of my place. The food is delicious and the staff super friendly. The restaurant is very cozy and when I was there it was nearly full which made for a very warm dining experience. The...More

Surprisingly delicious Middle Eastern food. Actually, best food of this kind I've ever had anywhere (including the multitude of Greek restaurants I've tried). The crisp bread (cross between Pita and Naan but crispy) with 3 dips was unbelievable as an appetizer (more than enough for...More

Wonderful food, great choice and lots of it. Food arrived quickly even though the restaurant was busy. The staff were helpful and friendly, also a big plus as it is BYOB. Will be returning.

Fantastic relaxed popular restaurant situated near to Edinburgh Castle. Met three other friend couples early evening with a two hour slot. Had a sharing starter, chicken skewers with pomegranate rice and some ice cream. A bring your own bottle restaurant that significant reduces the cost....More

Great food and nice atmosphere. Food was delicious and quickly served. They did not serve alcohol but you could by. Well worth a visit to get a change from Scotish pub food

This is close to the Castle. We booked a table as it looked quite busy. Attentive staff, great food. Very good sized portions. Had read some reviews that it was bland. Not sure what they were eating, ours was delicious. We both had a starter...More

Celebrating with a group of 10 adults on a Sunday night might have been tricky at some places but not at Hanams in Edinburgh's Johnston Terrace. Right under Edinburgh Castle crags, this open welcoming space has interesting decor to get the talking started. We quickly...More

This is our third visit to Hanams. Our first two visits we were spoilt for choice, but due to the festival a lot of dishes were removed. This forced us to pick dishes we wouldn't normally choose, although these were nice dishes we much preferred...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

I went there while on a gluten free diet and found plenty of options. Just be careful of the rice as I think it has vermicelli or some other kind of noodle in it.

Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.
