Excellent small French restaurant with authentic atmosphere and exquisite French food. We sampled a variety of starter, main course and sweets between us and every meal was perfect in flavour, presentation and quality. Relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Food excellent although a bit on the heavy side for me. Staff very attentive without being intrusive. Felt it was a bit on the expensive side, especially the drinks. If you are into rustic French food then this is the restaurant for you.

We had an unexpected visit here and both loved it. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Only took photos of the desserts but mains were also well presented and thoroughly enjoyed.

Look advantage of an itison deal to (finally) go to La Garrigue recently. Loved the feel of the restaurant - I imagine they were aiming for relaxed french neighbourhood bistro and if so they nailed it! The service was good and the food hit the mark, big plates of flavoursome food, just what you would expect from a good french... More

Visited for the first time based on reviews. The welcome by our waiter was a little luke warm to be honest although things did improve and we were spoken to by the owner later in the evening which was a nice touch. The menu is varied and offers a wide selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes to choose from.... More

Impeccable service in friendly venue. A three-course lunch to be savoured ending with a mouth watering Baba with Pruneaux d'Agen. Good wine selection.

Had not been here for a few years and I don't know why, it was great. Chicken parfait and the goats cheese pate were good. The fish (grunard) with polenta was lovely. The dessert of profiteroles and the chococolate mousse and almond sponge ended the meal beautifully. Highly efficient service too. Interesting wine list - Languedoc. Will be back soon!

Have looked forward to dining at La Garrigue for years, having passed by over the years and never managing to get an impromptu table. So this time booked a table for lunch. The experience surpassed my expectations. The service from the friendly and helpful staff was perfect from arrival to arranging the bill. We were allocated a table in the... More

The meal from beginning to end was really was a lovely experience. The service was faultless and all courses were delicious. Having grown up in France, it felt like going home for a few hours! Its not a cheap option but the top quality ingredients more than justified this. Would definitely go back. The fish soup was amazing!

Thank you for your sealofapproval ! It is even more relevant to us as you identify La Garrigue with growing up in France and the food you enjoyed then. Of course the food now served in France has" moved on" and La Garrigue is about the memories of French rustic food of yesteryears...with a twist? As long as people keep... More

La Garrigue has a wonderful reputation but I'm afraid we must have caught them on a bad night. To start they could only supply 3 menus for four of us "because everyone came at the same time" Well why didn't they manage their timings better or print more menus? Then, because our table was in front of the door and... More

Description
Close to the Royal Mile, La Garrigue is a low-key yet chic French restaurant in the buzzing heart of Edinburgh city centre. Smart hyacinth and white-panelled walls strike a stylishly understated tone, with simple wooden seating and bright windows offering views over Carlton Hill. Cuisine is similarly deceptively rustic, specialising in signature dishes from the rural Languedoc region of southern France heartened by deft modern cooking.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
