The French toast was excellent and was perfectly done combined with the maple syrup, scrambled eggs and bacon was great. Lovely coffee too. I'm not sure enamel plates are to everyone's taste ! It's pricey but good quality ingredients and very accommodating staff. Personally I'm...More

At a first glance, one may not be sure about what to think of the cracked tiles "decorating" the walls, but if you trust the suppliers of the cheeses and charcuterie, named in the sign outside, and decide to give it a bash you won't...More

Lovely cafe in the heart of Stockbridge. Nice rustic atmosphere inside. Had poached eggs and avocado on sourdough toast and it was excellent. Would highly recommend.

Maxis has now been rebranded and looks lovely from the outside but the inside was disappointing. It was very busy so service was slow but they did warn us of this and they were friendly. My bacon had been around for while so was hard...More

This place has been renamed 'Cowan & Sons' in early july 2017. We had an amazing scottish breakfast. The cakes are delicious (carrot cake, banana cake). The atmosphere is so nice, we did not want to leave!

Lovely cafe in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh. We visited for brunch. Good selection of foods and plenty of GF options on menu. Happy to add/alter items to suit. Great tasty food. Had oat milk latte too. Also had a GF cake option. Dog friendly,...More

We took our supper here after a long day trekking the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. Our server was very patient with the littles in our party and the food was delicious.

Right, so from the outside this cafe doesn't look like much, but inside the cafe is cosy and quaint. Breakfast was so good we went back the next day. I am a huge fan of porridge, granola and yogurt kinds of breakfast, and my boyfriend...More

Service was slow but we were warned of this when ordering and actually the food came much more quickly than expected. We had brunch here. The avocado smash is a modest portion but tasty all the same - think it doesn't need either the poached...More

We had a late lunch at Maxi's after landing in Scotland. The grilled cheese was pure perfection - order it with the chutney, you won't be sorry. I chatted with a man who I presume to be the owner, he sources the cheese from the...More

Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling
a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s
small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s
first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s
most desirable, though many bohemian touches have
fallen away as its residents have matured and the area
has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but
mostly residents display refined tastes in basement
