A friend who lives in Edinburgh recommended this restaurant. It is in a touristy area right near the Castle, so I was a bit worried, but the restaurant is quaint, authentic and reasonably priced.

We called in and had chose from the set lunch menu.It was all great..French onion soup and mussels in garlic for starters and several main choices..With several drinks, including 2 liqueurs and one dessert the bill was under £70 for 3. Great ambiance and service..We will be back...

We came here for dinner, which is just across our hotel. I was feeling unwell and had no appetite, thus we ordered only 1 onion soup, 1 main course (fish) and 1 starter (escargots). We asked for warm water and were given a small pot. We guessed there is no such thing as "warm water" in local context. Nevertheless we... More

We just came across this little place, what a find! The staff were lovely and the food is amazing. We ate from the specials menu, onion soup and beef bourginion, both were delicious. They offer 2 courses and a coffee for £12.95, this is a steal for the quality of food you are served. I will definitely be booking a... More

Firstly, the quality of the food and service was excellent, but unfortunately we were seated in the basement where there was zero atmosphere and we were seated staring at a wall!! The french onion soup was tasty and the rib eye steak excellent and cooked only as the french seem able to do - the pre-theatre menu is very good... More

Great venue with a limited menu but done so well. Really enjoyed dinner at this good value restaurant. Food was excellent and wine menu was very good. Small and not easy to accommodate groups of more than six but well worth a visit.

Can't say eneough good things about this place. Totally authentic in decor, cooking and service. Utterly fantastic food, service and atmosphere. We were there in Friday 10th March 2017, and couldn't enjoyed ourselves more. In fact my wife and I ate in Tom Kitchen's, The Kitchen, the previous night at a considerably higher cost, but we preferred our night here.... More

A busy, friendly restaurant where French is spoken naturally and standards are the best of France ( eg bread basket refilled). Service was unobtrusive and efficient. The bouillabaisse was authentic and delicious as were the moules and boeuf bourgignon. Good value. Probably best to book. Not for those who don't like tables close together perhaps!

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
