The walled beer garden at the Peartree is a fantastic place to be on a summers day during the Festival. A lot of effort had obviously been put into setting up a stage, with live music, outside bar and catering. Enjoyed some great bbq food, great beer and quality live entertainment. Extremely busy and many bars would struggle to cope... More

Met some people here after a Festival show. Both inside and out have good spaces. The Olympics were on a giant screen television outside and the atmosphere was really good. Staff were absolutely terrific- really engaging and very professional. A good spot which I will return to.

Great pub for sitting outside and watching large sporting events - with a gigantic outside screen and also an outside bar and burger stall. Seemed to be full of foreign students, but Euro 2016 was on so they may have been watching the football. Reasonable prices. Student discount available. Efficient service even when busy.

Pub with a lot of seating and s large beer garden that's popular and which can get very busy on warm days. Shows sporting events and has pleasant but often incredibly busy staff. Food is alright and offers standard pub fare that's fine but not hugely inspiring. Very busy outside on warm days and when big sporting events are on.

This is a great venue to meet friends. They have a good range of beers and a good bbq going on outside with basic burgers. It can get very busy at times and there are no bouncers,so it can get roudy

Decent pub with a comfy interior and the best beer garden in Edinburgh. During the Edinburgh Festival there is a stage in the beer garden with live music and screenings of shows, films etc.

My husband and I came here several times while we were vacationing in Edinburgh to catch NFL playoff games. They played all of them on all the TVs, and the whole place was full and it was definitely a cool experience. If you want to catch (American) football come here. The staff was so friendly and nice (especially Hayley!), and... More

Hey lovely girls at the bar, you are not even cute and you talk to customers like if they owe you their life. What kind of bar serves tequilas without lime and salt along? I asked the bar tender (the one with the "few friends face") for some lime cuttings but she despicably told me there were none left even... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
