We celebrated my partners 30th birthday here and were blown away. We had the seven course taster menu with the matched wines and would thoroughly recommend. Every course was absolutely amazing and you really couldn't fault the service. Would recommend time and time again.

Wow wow wow. Best meal of my life. From the minute we arrived till the minute we left the restaurant it was truly an experience like no other. Everyone who works there is so well taught and knowledgeable about what they are serving. The food was outstanding and the wine pairing was sublime, complementing each dish beautifully. This is surely... More

Normally Number One is only open for dinner but on special occasions, such as Mothers Day, they do offer set lunches. As our children live away, I took my wife out for Mother's Day by proxy! Although only a set lunch was available, it had enough choices for both of us to have a fresh, tasty and innovative dishes. I... More

Excellent food, first class service; distinguished yet very empathic. Cozy and very nicely decorated. Food is refined and tasty. Very nice experience and very nice show. The show is in the service, a well choreographed ballet that is great to look at. A must do dining experience

Edinburgh is fortunate in having many excellent restaurants and this is one of the top traditional venues. Service is very good indeed. Food choice is highly innovative. Be surprised by the excellent cheese cart and a most unusual 'sweet' trolley - as you will come to understand. I will be back. Reservations are essential.

I'm lucky enough to have eaten at a few Michelin starred restaurants but that meal was close on perfect. The 7 course tasting menu was amazing with the early dishes being nice and light and the main course being a perfect experience in savouriness. The wine pairing was excellent and the sommelier presented each wine with showmanship and flair. This... More

Fantastic meal at number 1. The service was fantastic and the food we enjoyed was superb. This is a classic high class hotel restaurant boasting one Michelin star and the food is modern and sophisticate. We enjoyed it very much. Hopefully back sooner rather than later

Where to start ? From the moment we entered to the divine petite fours every element of our evening was outstanding . We had opted for the 4 course tasting menu with paired wines offering the chefs choice of seasonal dishes. When my partner mentioned he wasn't so keen on one of the selections he was given the option to... More

Description
Memorable flavours and world-class cuisine. A truly outstanding culinary experience, worthy of its Michelin star for the 13th consecutive year. As one of the finest Edinburgh restaurants, 'Number One' presents an innovative blend of Scottish and French flavours. Saute Foie Gras with duck confit. Borders lamb, broad beans and grelot. Rhubarb and white chocolate panna cotta. Take a seat on the golden banquettes and sample some of Scotland's most creative dishes from our tasting menus. Equally striking are the original artworks from The Royal College of Art that hang on the red lacquered walls.

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
