After arriving into Edinburgh much later than planned (flight delay!) All we wanted to do was get some food! The first place, The Last drop, which is next door to Maggie's was full and very much a loud pub atmosphere... personally not my thing (even though I'm 20!) So we headed up the street and the menu looked appealing for... More

The lamb shank with mash was very good. Unpretentious easy meal but quiet atmosphere. I'm sure you can find a better vibe if that's what you are after but for a weeknight dinner it was great.

Cracking lunch here. I had burger and chips and my partner had a club sandwich and we were both full and happy. Big portions. Top quality food. Amazing whiskey menu and lovely service. Couldn't fault

The food is the same as every other place, but you go for the atmosphere! The food is really good, the prices are good and it's a can't-miss if you're in the mood for a quick bite for lunch or dinner!

Visited the pub for a quick lunch with wife and kids. Burgers were very tasteful and so was roasted vegie sandwich. Portions were big. Very friendly staff, fast service.

We were staying in Edinburgh on "mad Friday" before Christmas, so we knew many places would be busy. We came across this wee gem of a pub. My hubby was initially attracted to it because it sold one of his favourite beers "Innis and Gunn". It isn't a large pub, but the pleasant gentleman behind the bar took us to... More

Didn't enjoy this pub at all, there are virtually no seats as they hold a massive area at the back for people eating (even though there wasn't really anyone there to eat). Uncomfortable to stand also as there is nothing to lean on. Wouldn't return

As you know it's a lottery finding a pub with good fish and chips. But we found it! The evidence is in the picture:-) Me and my mother were looking for traditional pub lunch and we didn't want any fabricated food. Crisp and fresh just as the fish's supposed to be. But I could do with homemade tartar sauce though.... More

This is the first time I have entered the "close" going into the "Smallest Pub in Edinburgh" and going through the passageway and turning left takes you into Maggie Dicksons. Once at the bar I ordered a pint of Innis and Gunn and took it outside to sit in the sun and watched the people go by.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
