We came here drawn by the advert of coffee overlooking the Castle. A bit disappointed to find only 4 tables look out of the window, and 2 were occupied by people working on their laptops. (is there no way of encouraging such folk to sit elsewhere?) However, after a short wait we were able to sit in the bay window... More

The outlook is lovely over to Princes St gardens and Edinburgh Castle. The coffee is served in very small cups and costs £2.90 for a flat white. A pleasant place to spend an hour if you can afford it.

Being used to the eye-opening kick when consuming Starbucks coffee in the morning in the U.S., we were disappointed by the diluted flavor of the coffee here.

This place is really big. The library is on four flours. In the last floor, this is a Caf. The hot white chocolate is so famous and the atmosphere is pleasant.

This is Café W now not Starbucks! Visited with my family for a break in shopping and sightseeing. My 12 yo son is Celiac so on a gluten free diet. Cafes with displays of cakes are usually a challenge where a choice of 1 gluten free option is usually more than you can hope for. Not here, they had 2... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
