Cheap, extremely tasty and filling - all in a laid back and chilled out atmosphere. Will be back in the future.

You really do feel like you're escaping the world when you enter this restaurant as the ambiance was excellent and it had such a cosy feel. Despite it being a small restaurant you really didn't notice the other people near you at all which was a plus. Being a group where 3/4 of us were veggies we really pleased with... More

We were looking a for cheap dinner when my girlfriend was visiting, and we were recommended this restaurant for its cosy atmosphere. The food is incredibly good value, and the food is different to most Indian restaurants in Britain: we didn't have curries, but authentic Indian dishes. The service was fine, and we were seated immediately.

Excellent food with lots of vegetarian options, the staff are all very friendly and the decor creates a great atmosphere. Not very many seats though and quite popular so I wouldn't recommend for a big group.

Strange for the UK, but this one of the best value for money places I have been to in the UK. Simply great!

After walking past this restaurant the night before and seeing a queue down the street, my girlfriend and I were curious of this place. We went the following day with a friend and understood why there was such a fuss. The food is great and yet has student prices. The cosy interior builds the ambience and I shall be returning... This is a favourite of mine near Edinburgh Uni and perfect for a quick, but very tasty, meal. They cater for all food preferences including vegan options is desired. The vegetarian platter is terrific, but £3.50 for a vegetable curry with student card is brilliant. A friend said it's the best curry he's tasted. Great value but no compromise on... More

On my first I went in there for chai. And I was not disappointed . This time I took my gf for a meal. The place is small but cosy great use of space and decor. Mind it might get cramped when it's busy. The owner of the place is a nice guy with great humour aka sarcasm. We ordered... More

We were just looking for a nice and comfortable ambience to have a quick lunch. This place looked perfect from outside and we ended up here. It was really disappointing right from the first step we put in. The place was cramped with hardly any place to walk. To make the manoeuvring worse, we entered with a buggy with our... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
