Testy food, fairly priced, quickly served and such a bonus too to eat at a cafe that does decent beverage options .... namely tea from leaves not sweepings in a pot that does not leak even!! Just down from the NMS and royal mile so handy location too. Beautiful building with craft shop and exhibitions too.

I always feel that I've had a healthy but very tasty lunch when I eat here. Today's chicken Vietnamese rice paper roll was so tasty, especially the soy dip. My friend had the delicious green pea soup with a half salmon sandwich. Both were big portions & good value. Nice service too and happy to divulge the contents of their... More

Good tasty soups, sandwiches and coffee. The cakes were excellent. But... somehow it wasn't as good as I had remembered before I understand that they had a change of ownership/staff. The staff were friendly and efficient. In any other town I would have given them 5 stars but Edinburgh is awash with excellent places that provide larger and more tasty... More

Before attending the meeting in ECCI which is at 20 metres,I decided to have a tea in this lovely place. Staff so kind Clean spacious and the most important, quiet. Music was at the right level. Definetely good choice to star the day and the week in the Scotland capital city.

The coffee I had was entirely acceptable. It was made more interesting by being in the avant garde Dovecote Studios where tapestries are made and contemporary art exhibitions take place. It is beside the excellent shop and if you have an hour it is worth having a pleasant café lunch here at looking at some of the exhibitions

We needed a break from touring, so we stopped in for lunch. This little cafe adjacent to the gallery was packed and energetic. We got the soup of the day (sweet potato and red pepper) and a half roasted veggie sandwich, as well as a pastrami bagel. The soup was tasty, the half sandwich huge and delicious, and DH enjoyed... Such a lovely, bright and charming little cafe. Staff are attentive and very friendly and well informed. The hot chocolates are to die for and very reasonably priced!

Excellent coffee prepared with all the dedication required (no rush). I tried the carrot cake and it is amazing. But brownies and other cakes looked delicious as well. Service isn't the fastest one, but staff is really friendly. Moreover isn't that cheap, but it's fine to have a treat even and then.

A delightful spot for a very fine lunch. We had soup and a sandwich followed by cake- what could be more perfect? The food was fresh, flavoursome, imaginative and delicious, the service super friendly , the environment modern and airy. Defintely recommended, as it's slightly off the beaten track so not too bustling so it's possible to chat.

Having visited the Dovecot Gallery I decided to have a very quick lunch in the adjacent café and was not disappointed. Greek salad was good and fresh and the coffee was strong and hot; staff were very nice and service quick. Excellent.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
