If you're in the Grassmarket DEFINITELY nip into Biddy's for a wee dram. Great tunes, great people watching, really good pub grub and great prices.

This was our last lunch in Edinburgh before heading home and it didn't disappoint! We both had the club sandwich with fries and a side of onion rings. Great, traditional pub grub. Just what the Dr ordered on a freezing, rainy December day. Sorry to read reviews that weren't as complementary, we really enjoyed it and I'm a fussy one!

Nice place on Grassmarket for a drink. Good selection on draft to chose from. Didn't have any food but it looked nice.

And great food, staff, drinks and atmosphere is what we received. Although the irony of arriving in Scotland and the first beer we had was in an Irish pub unintentionally was not lost on us! My wife and I dropped in for a sneaky pint and enjoyed it so much we went and got the kids for dinner there.

We ordered steak sandwhiches, it was cringe worthy. 3 bits of steak, very small, that is it, in the bread. Full and I mean full of gravy looking sauce that was not nice. Bread full of the sauce, obvious trying to clamoflauge the lack of meat with the sauce. Didn't work, after tasting this terrible sauce, peeled back the bread... More

Went in for a couple of drinks and just someting to nibble on. I spent 10 mins waiting in the bar with only 2 people in front of me. Barman seemed more interested in the waitresses. Drinks are single and the same price as u would pay for a double just down the street. Just ordered a bowl of chips... More

We went on boxing night, very quiet. Only ordered a plate of nachos, £9:45. They arrived, no chilli beef, no salsa, waitress only told us they didn't have any when she served us. She then gave us the bill, no discount !! Even by Edinburgh standards. £9:45 fir a plate of rotten plate of below par doritos with a sprinkle... More

Biddy's is open until 1am all week with live music every night and provides plenty of sports coverage, especially for hurling and Gaelic football.Scottish produce, Irish foodBiddy's may be an Irish pub and restaurant but their menu also features items such as grilled nachos with salsa, sour cream and guacamole, sweet potato and mixed bean burger and chilli con carne with boiled rice.Let the restaurant chefs tempt you with the full Irish fry - an all day breakfast consisting of bacon, sausage, a potato farl (tattie scone, to Scots), mushrooms, tomato, white pudding, beans and a fried egg. Alternatively, diners may opt for Biddy's Irish stew (Granny Fallon from County Longford's very own recipe), the mussel pot with caramelised onions, Guinness and parsley or the crispy breaded haddock with chips and peas. Just be sure to leave some room for the Baileys cheesecake for pudding.Old Town accessibility & transport linksBiddy's is on Grassmarket in the Old Town area of Edinburgh and is around fifteen minutes on foot from Waverley train station. A short distance from the Royal Mile and a pay and display parking area, bus stops and taxi ranks are also close to the restaurant.Free wifi access is available every day of the week, ideal if you've got a working lunch or just feel like a nosey on Facebook.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
