This resturant is well worth a visit. Tremendous selections of Indian food. Friendly and attentive service. Cold Cobra beer. Plenty of Nan and rice to choose from which adds to the curry of your choice. We would recommend.

After a week being kept away from Indian food, The Spice Pavilion provided a nice opportunity for a breaking that and really cherished food and service was good.

Best curry I've had in Edinburgh and portion sizes are perfect. Plenty to choose from. Sides were also spot on, great light popadoms and soft fresh nan breads. Good wine selection and Cobra beer on tap. Negatives: As it's set down stairs off the main road, it feels a little dingy inside. The entrance looks terrible. Decor not great and... More

The concierge recommended Spice Pavilion when he found out we didn't have a reservation for dinner prior to the Street Party. We were very happy with our dinner. They also had a very nice wine selection, and a huge menu. We ordered several main dishes, (no starters) and we enjoyed everything very much. I would definitely go back.

First time at this Indian restaurant. Service was attentive. Starters of chicken and King prawn pakora were not that great. Bit bland. Saved by the accompanying sauces. Main courses were very tasty. Would go back but give starters a miss.

Really enjoyed the takeaway we had from here on a Saturday night, I tend to find that the food is better if you fine a restaurant that does takeaways too. Very helpful waiter when we rang and the food was delivered exactly at the time we asked for. We had Rogan Josh, MIxed meat Biryani and pilau rice, it was... More

When we visited here, we were the first customers to arrive! If you didn't know if was there, you might miss it - it's set down off the pavement. Although the decor isn't amazing, the food was tasty and the portion sizes were perfect. Overall, a great curry - would visit again.

Finding a quiet and affordable place for dinner not too far from the tourist center of Edinburgh can be a challenge. Spice Pavillion is located in an unassuming basement only 10 min by foot (or take the bus) from Edinburg Castle and a great spot to start the evening, with many bars in the area to continue the night. The... More

The restaurant is in a basement, so the ceiling is low and it's small and intimate. Perfect for some dinner after watching some Fringe comedy. The food was tasty and reasonably priced, we'll definitely be going again. Also recommenced booking before arriving on the weekend as it does get busy of an evening.

Description
This new Indian restaurant in the centre of Edinburghs New Town has carved out a little niche for itself amongst the art galleries and antique shops along Dundas Street. Open for lunch and dinner, The Spice Pavilion attracts a well-heeled crowd of art lovers, and the interior a modern space inspired by the rich colours of colonial India is a stylish choice for both leisurely or business lunches and a romantic spot for evening meals. The kitchens philosophy is to take away the focus from heat and shift it to herbs and spices, giving the curries at The Spice Pavilion lovely fresh flavours which are complimented by an impressive range of wines from Australia and Italy.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
