Nice cakes and atmosphere. It was raining outside when we visited which made for a lovely, cosy experience. I would say however that for a tea room, they don't know how to prepare green tea. Green tea should be brewed at 80 degrees to stop it tasting astringent and bitter. While I wouldn't expect non green tea drinkers to know... More

It is a small tea room, few tables and you feel like you are in a typical house with friendly waitresses. Tea and cakes were delicious, breakfast is served as well if you prefer

My family of 4 (kids ages 11 and 14) enjoyed afternoon tea. It is a small tea shop with wonderful homemade treats. We tried the scones, pie, and a cookie. The food was excellent. The shop is tiny and we were lucky to get a seat. Great place to get refreshments after touring Holyroodhouse. It's a nice place for a... More

So nice to find an old fashioned tea room with home made cakes etc. Tea served in China cups nothing too much trouble service with a smile. Located at the bottom of the Royal Mile with reasonable prices a real find highly recommend.

Visited with a close friend and we just wanted to take a seat in a small, silent place to discuss what happened with us. The cafe is a large room with few round tables. On the walls there are a lot of pictures about local people or the castles. Our teas were the most delicious and good quality what we... More

Feels like you're at your nan's house! Loved the cakes, selection of teas and lunches. I had the soup and sandwich option which was a great deal and delicious. Not very allergy friendly unfortunately as my gluten intolerant friend's choice was limited, which is my only criticism! Will definitely be back.

I loved this quaint teashop at the bottom of the Royal Mile. Great service, variety of quality foods on the menu. We had a ploughmans but the cakes looked great too.

First discovered Clarindas on a frosty January day after a walk up Salisbury Crags and around Holyrood Park. We were served a steaming bowl of homemade vegetable soup back then and we were hooked! It is now a must visit whenever we are lucky enough to travel back to Edinburgh. Homemade cakes are fabulous and tea somehow always tastes better... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
