Went here twice for on my recent visit to Edinburgh as the food is excellent. They have an excellent full cooked breakfast and they took my haggis virginity from me and I definitely didn't regret it. If it isn't a fry up you are looking for they do other yummy breakfast items as well and some with an Asian theme.... More

Menu was a bit different and the food looked good that we saw. Went in, seated quickly, menu delivered - and that was it. We were there about quarter of an hour and hadn't even been asked what we would like to drink. Plenty of staff, none looking particularly rushed off their feet. Left and went to pub 2 doors... More

I spent a few hours here with friends for an afternoon of conversation. It felt very welcoming and the staff were genuinely friendly and pleasant of manner. I didn't eat anything, but my friends did, and they enjoyed their meal. I just had coffee, which was excellent. The main feeling I came away with was that it was a really... More

We took some colleagues here recently. We all loved it. Good choice of local beers and cocktails. Staff were genuine, engaged, knowledgeable and friendly. Food is reasonably priced and is fusion themed. We started with sharing plates, all tasty with big helpings. Main courses were a tasty ramen, noodle salad and burgers. Everyone thought theirs was great. Helpings too big... More

This bar/restaurant just at the end of the tram line is great for relaxed dining. Serving food in both areas if you want a less formal dining experience. Fantastic area of cocktails on offer. All mixed to perfection, Ok choice of food. Little limited for starter type dishes. Chicken burger is superb. Succulent and cooked to perfection. Comes with a... More

Went here for a dinner catch up with a friend using my Tastecard. The place makes great use of the small space and is really laid back and welcoming. The staff were all so friendly and attentive. It's a shame the sandwiches are only served until 6pm so we missed out on that. We ordered the avocado rice bowl and... More

We come here when we want to use the tastecard 241 deal somewhere in town. Cocktails are the highlight, good selection and standard of ingredients. The décor is nice and theres the option to sit on bench seats outside if its early avo. Food is average burgers/ noodles/ salads so bit hit or miss- important to order well. My noodles... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
