This experience was a gift and I can recommend it 100%. The staff are super friendly & welcoming. The Gin expert (sorry forgot his name) was extremely knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. They have an extensive range of Gins that will put a smile on the face of any Gin lover! Only down side, was the afternoon tea could... More

Things right: - Staff. Friendly, attentive, decent service. The owner should allow people to pay amounts less than £5 by card so people aren't caught out and have money left for a tip. - Drinks. Very good selection of beers and craft gin. - Decor. Nice concept and execution. Things not so right: - Food. I ordered a burger, a... More

We have dined here several times, every time without exception, the service has been wonderful. The burgers and fries are faultless. Combined with spacious and contemporary surroundings, this place is a real winner. We will be back many more times!

We nearly turned back when we saw how hectic it was on a sunny Saturday afternoon however stayed put and enjoyed the marvelouslly chilled wine that arrived fairly swiftly. Four different staff served us - such was the madness of the place - all friendly enough. Steaks were tasty, but overcooked. lovely dressing on the fresh salad - mustard requested... More

This is the 3rd time I have been to this restaurant and it's the second time there have been issues which affected the overall enjoyment of the night. Each time I have been I have ordered a coke with no ice and each time the coke has arrived it has had to be returned. I checked with the staff and... More

Relatively new to this bar and it's our new favorite. Been in a few times for cocktails. Haven't had the food but it looked good going past and empty plates returned to the kitchen so people around us enjoyed it. The cocktails are excellent and most of the staff are good at helping you with the extensive gin menu.

The gentleman that greeted us didn't seem interested (but seemed so happy when dealing with other dinners later on), the other female staff member rolled her eyes just before we were thankfully seated by Hannah. We were unfortunately served mainly by the same female staff member who ignored my girlfriends attempt conversation and previously rolled her eyes at us, plus... More

We were a party of six in town for a day out and had booked a meal in the afternoon at 56 North. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. The bar had a great range of beers and gins and we will hopefully have another visit to sample more of these.

Thank lotherrock

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
