Surprisingly impressed at this restaurant that was hidden behind scaffolding (at present) we first walked past but decided to turn back, greeting was lovely, food and drinks were quick and very tasty! Above all extremely cheap and they even let us charge our phones behind the bar! Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Twelve of us had lunch and it didn't disappoint. One member of the group recommended it as one of his favourite Italian restaurants in Edinburgh. I wouldn't go that far, but the staff were friendly and the menu had a good selection of the usual Italian dishes. Located across from the Festival Theatre, I can imagine it will be popular... More

We often have a pre-theatre dinner here before we head off to see a show at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. The menu is reasonably priced and the food is delicious. The staff are very friendly and your food is served promptly which is very important if you're watching your time for the theatre.

Edinburgh has loads of Italian restaurants so sometimes you just have to take pot luck. TiAmo it was, then, because we were in the area. The food was really good - I had pasta and my dining partner had pizza. It's the kind of honest Italian style food that you'd expect to get for this price point - no surprises... More

Despite phoning ahead - and changing booking from another restaurant - the promised gluten free option was non-existent. While this was inventively solved by sending a member of staff to the nearest supermarket to buy something suitable, the rest of the food offered was not great. Risotto was ordered by a few in our group. It was dry and seemed... More

Nothing bad here, but the food is average in quality. It's reasonably priced and it would seem you're pretty much guaranteed to get a table as it's big and not terribly busy; but that always rings alarm bells doesn't it? Service was efficient rather than particularly good. For us it was OK because we needed a quick meal between shows... More

Very friendly staff and speedy service despite it being a Fringe Friday. Pizzas and risotto all very good.

We hadn't booked and knew we would struggle to find someplace for dinner - as a group of 6 not everyone could squeeze us in so we were delighted when Ti Amo were able to do just that - they quickly set a table for us on a very busy Saturday night during Festival time. Our drinks order was taken... More

Don't be put off by the faded and dated decor, this restaurant is an absolute gem. Efficient service, good food and reasonable prices all make this an excellent choice for lovers of Italian food. We shall definitely return.

A busy Friday night during Fringe Festival and our usual eateries were full, so we tried Ti Amo on Nicolson Street and were delighted. A friendly welcome, decent menu and, best of all, well cooked and presented food at modest prices by City Centre standards. I can't give 5 stars to any restaurant which only offers paper napkins but that... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
