I'm in love with this little restaurant. Mercedes, the proprietress, is super-friendly and so helpful. The menu is limited, but the dishes are well chosen and are so delicious. Great ambience. The arepas are to die for. I had a messy but divine fajita. I suffered from food envy looking at the other plates delivered. Great service! Great food! Can't... More

We had a fantastic, but unexpected meal at this fantastic little restaurant. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and the atmosphere was very Latin American. Much more than Mexican, this is menu has hints of Venezuela and other Latin American countries. A really nice place to spend a relaxing Sunday evening.

We arrived at the restaurant quite by accident since we were staying at the hotel Nira Caledonia in Stockbridge in the new town section of town. We ordered starters and the main course because of the two item menu and price. My wife had the "mushrooms with chili" and I had the steamed mussels as a starter. Both were marvelous... More

This is a very friendly little place, serving fairly standard south American dishes, but done very well. Nice selection of drinks, cocktails and coffee liqueurs as well. Worth a visit.

Margaritas looked like dishwater, and tasted like salty water. No kick, no lime flavour. Were sent back and second lot were a bit better, but waitress argued back, and we didn’t get an apology. Mussel starter was very nice. Mains in general lacked any flavour or kick and we asked for a bowl of chillies, before adding jalapenos to everything.... More

Been here three times now, had something different to eat on each visit and loved it every time. Had a complaint this time though, those tequila mussels...? I HAVE to get them as a main and not just a starter. They're GORGEOUS, SO much better than the Mussel Inn on Rose Street which we tried as a comparison. This is... More

It's a nice small place with good authentic Latin American cuisine but nothing really special. It was bit tricky to find the place as the restaurant is in basement and it is easy to miss the signboard. Finally service was just moderate.

Found this place by accident when looking for a place to eat close to where we were staying - but what a find! Everything gets a tick; really freshly made and delicious tasting food, very friendly service and great prices!

We've visited Sabor Criollo in Stockbridge for dinner on several occasions now. We have always really enjoyed the experience - lovely food in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The food is delicious and the service very friendly and efficient at the same time. The prices are very reasonable. I tend to have the black bean nachos followed by the enchiladas... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
