On a wet evening Al Dente provided a warm and cosy haven with excellent food and service. It's off the beaten track but more than worth the journey. We arrived at 9pm( having made a reservation ) and there was no reluctance because of the hour. We had two specials. Starter was small pepper stuffed with risotto , anchovy, capers... More

A small Italian restaurant (wise to book). Ambience only gets 4* (a bit stark). Front of house is handled with great charm and professionalism. Food is very good. Calamari, sea bass, amazing rabbit, sensational amaretto sweet - it was all very good to amazing. Prices are very sensible for the quality offered. I would certainly recommend it.

Great early bird menu, £13.95 for three courses. Small and worth making a reservation but we walked in midweek without an issue. Personal attention from the owner, who couldn't have been nicer. Who knew Italian food in Scotland could be so good?

We went here based on numerous recommendations from people who had stayed in the flat that we had for the weekend! It was a lovely experience and both my boyfriend & I loved what we got. I started with a stuffed pepper and my boyfriend had a pasta dish with a pork ragu. Both very tasty. I then had seabass... More

I would have liked to submit a review of this restaurant's food and service etc. Unfortunately I am unable to. A table was booked online for a Monday evening. I received a confirmation email for this booking and 48 hours before I even received a reminder email stating how much they were looking forward to meeting my party. This was... More

What a joyous and delicious find on Easter Road! We loved the intimate nature of this neighbourhood restaurant: it has a the air of a small, utterly welcoming, family Italian restaurant, while providing a menu sophisticated in its appeal, and affordable in price. The menu, however, doesn't reveal all its secrets. when we asked for the gnocchi, it was revealed... More

I booked this restaurant as it was close to where I was staying with my family in Edinburgh for a pre-theatre meal. Included in my party was my daughter who requires a gluten free menu and my 81 year old Mum who gets very anxious. I checked with the restaurant before we went whether they could accommodate a gluten free... More

An authentic Italian restaurant in Leith! We had amazing pastas, one of which was homemade and delicious wine. Service was fantastic. Overall, a great experience. Would definitely recommend and come back!

Fantastic authentic food served in a cosy friendly atmosphere. Graziano is a great host and definitely goes the extra mile to ensure you're looked after. The Amaretto Parfait was superb!

Description
Secreted away on one of the quieter stretches of Easter Road is a sparkling jewel of Italian dining – Al Dente is quite simply glorious. The walls are covered with pictures of Italian movie stars and picturesque vistas and these evocative images, along with the tiled floor and simple wooden tables, imbue Al Dente with the earthy simplicity of old Italy. But do not be fooled by this rustic interior or the attractively affordable prices; this restaurant offers the finest food and the friendliest service. A roast pepper overflows with fat grains of arborio rice, subtle but vibrant flavours elevating homely fare to five-star standards. A similar trick is played with immaculately presented mains such as porcini mushroom risotto and chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and parmesan. The set lunch is fantastic value; that diners can enjoy two courses of locally sourced, seasonal food, beautifully cooked for only £7.50 seems almost preposterous, if wonderfully so.High point: Beautiful, affordable foodLow point: The shop front is not as welcoming as the staff within
