This is a nice little restaurant on Easter road. The service was very good, chef and staff very friendly, and the food was authentic. And it’s not very expensive!

This is a friendly little place tucked off the beaten track with surprisingly good food at a reasonable price. Definitely recommended!

My wife and I had lunch here and once again, I can't fault either the food or the service. Aperol spritz while deliberating the menu was made to perfection. I had the Gnocchi to start and my wife had the most delicate filo pastry tarts...More

Visited on evening of Friday 5 January. First customers at 5.30pm so had small space to ourselves for some time. Served by the chef who engaged in very interesting conversation about his food philosophy (makes own stock, simplicity is key etc) and italy. We had...More

Our first visit to Al Dente but it won't be our last. Tucked away in an unlikely spot, it is small and cosy, with an imaginative menu - a nice change from the standard Italian restaurant menu, friendly staff, a hands-on owner, who comes to...More

Lovely evening with friends. Delicious goats cheese parcel starter and Genovese pasta dish. Husband asked for a seafood risotto instead of the seafood spaghetti not a problem, very accommodating Would return and recommend. Booking required as small restaurant

Description
Secreted away on one of the quieter stretches of Easter Road is a sparkling jewel of Italian dining – Al Dente is quite simply glorious. The walls are covered with pictures of Italian movie stars and picturesque vistas and these evocative images, along with the tiled floor and simple wooden tables, imbue Al Dente with the earthy simplicity of old Italy. But do not be fooled by this rustic interior or the attractively affordable prices; this restaurant offers the finest food and the friendliest service. A roast pepper overflows with fat grains of arborio rice, subtle but vibrant flavours elevating homely fare to five-star standards. A similar trick is played with immaculately presented mains such as porcini mushroom risotto and chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and parmesan. The set lunch is fantastic value; that diners can enjoy two courses of locally sourced, seasonal food, beautifully cooked for only £7.50 seems almost preposterous, if wonderfully so.High point: Beautiful, affordable foodLow point: The shop front is not as welcoming as the staff within
