Staying close we found this gem while out on a walk, could not accommodate us right away but said in 3/4 of an hour a table would be free......... Two beers later we came back, food was absolutely first class, could not be faulted, even Thai basil was on top of the red curry, the Pad Thai was brilliant. Staff... More

Came here for the 3 course lunch menu for less than £12. Cosy small restaurant and decent choice except for dessert which just vanilla ice cream. I had the deep fried pork neck unfortunately over cooked and dry- wasn't pleasant but then my prawn curry was very good- a bit stingey on the prawns I only got 5. Overall was... More

Visited here as part of a group of four on a busy Saturday night. Luckily we had booked as the place was full. The restaurant is snug and there are quite a lot of tables in a relatively small space, but it wasn't so cramped that you were elbow to elbow with fellow diners. The food is a mixed bag;... More

The taste of Thai food here was not Thai 's. It was adjusted too much , less spices( garlic, chili, kaffir lime leaves even coriander. ) . The balance of flavor was also unacceptable. Spicy carrot salad( Somtam) was salty , not sour at all . The chef used cashew nut instead of peanut, making the flavor distorted from original... More

I came here unsure whether the food would be worth the prices I'd seen on the menu. They were for sure! The food was fantastic and great portions too. Some of the best thai food i've had. It is very small so I recommend booking if you think it may be bus. The staff were also lovely and just added... More

I have been attending regular concerts at the Usher Hall for many years, and for a very long time have said that my husband and I should try this restaurant. We were there last Friday (14/10/16) for the first time. I am left asking myself why it took me so long to eat there. The food was fabulous, and the... More

We visited before going to the Lyceum Theatre across the road and the place was packed. Despite that, service was extremely efficient and extremely charming. The food was excellent - my wife is vegetarian and I'm not and we both had fantastic and very different dishes. This is definitely somewhere I'd come back to.

Because we couldn't get into kanpai sushi we walked a few doors down and decided to give Spirit of Thai a try - good decision! As my wife and I both love asian cuisine - wether it be Chinese, Japanese or Thai - we both have a good knowledge and high standard. I've got to say Spirit of thai is... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
