The tourist trap location of Shamoli and the fact that it bills itself as a Thai & Indian Restaurant made me very dubious but our son, who lives in Edinburgh reassured me that it was good. When we arrived at the place, I was put off even more by the exterior and the fact that, to get in, you need... More

Before flying in to Edinburgh, we reserved a table based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were slightly concerned when we walked up to the restaurant in that it does not look that inspiring from the road. However, do make your way upstairs to the restaurant itself. We were pleased we did. The menu is both Thai and Indian. We only got... More

Came here for a meal after a long train journey. It's nice and close to Waverly which is handy. A casual sort of place , different having 2 menus in Thai and Indian. Veggie wife wanted Thai but all the veggie options were spicy curries which is a shame. My veggie Bryani was huge and tasty albeit only cane with... More

The buffet was very good value for money. Wine was good value too. Nice staff. The atmosphere was spoilt by an Indian woman shouting nonstop on facetime the whole time we were there ( a customer ). Not the restaurant's fault I know, some very selfish idiots out there

It was great to be able to choose from either a Thai or Indian menu. We had both and they were equally good. The service was extremely efficient.

We tried this place as everywhere else was full to bursting and are so glad we did as the food was really good. The restaurant is much better than it looks from the outside which was a surprise. We were prepared to look at the menu and then leave but the atmosphere was good and we were offered a nice... More

Visited the Shamoli last Friday lunchtime for their buffet meal. The restaurant does both Indian and Thai food which is great to mix and match. The quality was excellent and obviously with the buffet you can eat at whatever pace suits best, try things you may not have had before, eat as much or as little etc. Genuinely thought the... More

We stopped into the restaurant for the lunch buffet. The restaurant is clean and next to our hotel. The buffet was disappointing. There were several options for curry to put over the rice, but most were spicy. Not too bad as an adult, but not great for the kids. We thought kids were free, but I guess our 8 year... More

Everytime we visit Edinburgh, my friends and family eat here as the food is excellent with two choices of menus; Thai or Indian pleases everyone. Last night was no exception. We ordered and shared all the dishes in the middle -deeeelicious.🤗 However, instead of the normal helpful smiling waiters who normal take care of us we got a somewhat grumpy,... More

Excellent food, the Lamb Karahi was cooked to perfection and the cheese naan was a nice addition, overall a cracking curry! The early bird menu was reasonably priced and had a good choice of Thai or Indian meals for a two course dinner The staff were polite and friendly and the whole experience worked well for my father's birthday Thoroughly... Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
