That's praise indeed James - thank you. The staff all take a pride in their work - and some in the bakehouse upstairs you never see ! Kind regards Michael

Food is yummy. Easy to find a gift for an avid gardener. Plant selection is extensive. Pleasant atmosphere. Lots of plants under cover to view in inclement weather.

I came across this place by accident on a 90-mile round trip to a rose grower in Ayrshire. The café is well-stocked with delicious-looking cakes and tray-bakes, but I decided to try a cherry & walnut scone with my coffee (I'm always on the lookout...More

Went to Symington, to visit "Hayes Gardenland" Garden Centre and Cafe. It was a beautiful Sunny Day, and this place is totally unexpected, in its scale and upmarket offerings, both Tree and treat! I had a Cheddar and Ham Toastie, served with a nice Coleslaw,...More

Popped in to Hayes Garden Land for a quick lunch and had an enjoyable portion of macaroni and cheese with a slice of garlic bread which I thought was to replace the salad side dish as I can not digest the salad. Must say that...More

Sorry - that is quite unusual - there were probably mitigating circumstances due to staff shortage. They try their best and all lovely ladies, but it quite often gets pressurised in there if there is a queue. Sorry again ............ Kind regards Michael H

Met a friend here for tea and scones yesterday morning, she recommended the place and knowing I’m a real scone lover and a bit of a critic as well, I’m had hopes for Hayes. I wasn’t disappointed. 3 of us and 3 different types ordered,...More

We are weekly visitors to Hayes and travel a distance to enjoy the great coffee and scones. The staff are lovely and caring and the cleanliness is second to none. Our only negative comment is sometimes the special scones are rather burned and the ingredients...More

Always have this when I visit - delicious. However, I have noticed that over the last few months they are serving different and (in my view) inferior rolls, and the bacon doesn't seem as crispy. Maybe I'll just need to change to something else?More

Sorry you're noticing a difference but we are using the same rolls as we have for 13 yrs and still using the same quality Danish (sorry Ayrshire !) bacon as always - just ask for it to be crispier next time. Hope this helps and...More

Description
Situated within the Garden Centre this large Bakery Cafe presents delicious homemade food fast and efficiently. Worth reviewing. Hayes of Symington is a family firm that evolved from Hayes of Ambleside and the 8th generation is now very much involved. The Scottish "branch" started in May 1987 and although related to the Ambleside family it has no business or financial ties. The business ethic is to provide quality products at a constant fair price in pleasant surroundings and steady employment for approximately 40 local staff.
