Popped in for a beer and loved the ambience so we stayed for food too. Varied menu....Had the game soup which was delicious followed by the venison stew which was also lovely. Very friendly staff and the beer was excellent....Some of the best i have had in Scotland from a local brewery.

Four of us came here as it came recommended by Emma's Taxis. We entered the bar via the side street and although very small it had a cosy feel to it. Service was quick and friendly and if you're in Moffat you could do worse than stopping here for a while

Every time I'm in Moffat I think of going elsewhere but invariably end up in the Star Hotel. Food is consistently of a high standard and is reasonably priced. They stock local real ale and have a fine selection of malt whisky.

There were only myself and my partner first evening had a bit of a wait as was told restaurant was busy so fair enough when it arrived... More

Although we preordered we chose quite a variety of dishes which is a challenge for the chef. We were given a 10 per cent group discount. I chose half a crispy duckling. The same vegetables accompanied most of the dishes and was very standard fare. The duckling was crispy and quite tasty but I think reheated. Most of us felt... More

Just dropped in after 5pm for a quick coffee and scone. The rest of Moffat seems to go into hibernation after 4pm! Obliging place providing tasty little warm scones. Warm and comfortable.

We go here often for the homemade pies... Chicken, leek and ham or steak pie or venison pie, chips and veg. Its a big hearty meal and its a real pie. Not one of those kid on pies with a bit of puff pastry on the side. At the Star you get your own pie dish, home made with real... More
