I visited the merchant during mothers day, we had prebooked afternoon tea and we arrived at 1 o'clock (30 minutes early) the staff where extremely courteous, you really feel like royalty both when your food is being served and you're taking in the spectacle of the Tea room. I was expecting the food to be adequate & the portions to... More

We had dinner and certainly the surroundings are amazing. We opted for the set dinner. My starter of salmon was nice but the risotto I had was not good, watery and lacking in any flavour. Service was average and we had to wait a long time for the bill and for our payment to be taken. The restaurant was not... More

Wow - what a room??!! Enjoyed Afternoon Tea in the stunning surroundings of The Great Room. The architecture is fabulous and you will spend the first 10 mins staring at the ceiling trying to take it all in! Food itself was average enough, have had better afternoon tea elsewhere and also found that the staff were fairly unfriendly but would... More

Just had a meal in the "great room"... the decor is second to none and without doubt up there with such venues in Belfast. Service in the great room was fairly good although in the cocktail bar I found myself having to get the attention of staff. I ordered from the a La Carte menu going for the Scallops to... More

It was my granddaughter's eighteenth and this was her choice. The surroundings are magnificent, the service was good and the food enjoyed by all. It is expensive but for a special occasion we enjoyed the atmosphere and ignores the size of the bill.

Sumptuous hotel. One of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in and the coffee (cafitiere) in the room was lovely. This hotel is exoensive but...worth it. Breakfast is also rather good too. On the roof there us the hot tub; certainly a different way to take in the Belfast rooftops

First I should say that I am no food expert - but I can cook a bit and over the years I have eaten at enough good quality restaurants to know what I should expect. At £150 for two with a single bottle of rioja, the Great Room at the Merchant is pitching itself against some very high quality competition... More

Spent a night here on 9th February. A great experience. We stayed in one of the Victorian rooms. Real opulance. The meal in the great room was gorgeous and all the staff were very professional and yet friendly. I would definitely recommend it .

Came for Sunday breakfast about 9am. Not guests of the hotel but was no problem to accommodate us and the staff were very friendly and efficient. I must say the breakfast is an absolute bargain at £19pp for a tea/coffee, fruit juice, fruit salad/cereal, pastries, and a cooked breakfast. Well worth it for the quantity and amount of food, plus... More
