So disappointed with stereotype! I had a couple of friends to attend the Ulster game that was cancelled today and i brought them to sample the culture Belfast had to offer! After having a great time at a couple of closeby establishments i decided to try 'The John Hewitt' to be told we could not enter due to my approach... More

None of our city centre bars reach the standard of the Old Kitchen Bar, but at least the Hewitt makes an effort to serve decent lunchtime food. The drink is also decent, if underwhelming and sometimes a good ale makes it on to the roster. The consistently good standard of service is also noteworthy, but the house PA system is... More

Good, well maintained pub in the Cathedral Quarter. Good range of real ale and local beer as well as all the usual suspects. Live music on when we were there (about 9pm on a Friday).

I came here on the recommendation of a friend and glad I did. I didn't eat here but it was the bar scene and music I'd been told about. Monday nights can be a bit quiet in most places but the band playing jazz were excellent and a great place to spend an hour or two - I'll certainly make... More

Third stop on our beer trip, also in the beer guide. I had a bottle of Foxes Rock stout which was excellent. My boyfriend was very indecisive and the bat staff very kindly let him try several of the beers on tap before deciding on IPA. Reasonably priced, with a good selection. I did notice a small range of food... More

We visited The John Hewitt last Saturday evening, about 10pm. The bar was busy, with a nice atmosphere. We only stayed for one drink (before moving onto another nearby pub). Good service, prices and selection of drinks - we'd recommend this pub.

I am visiting Belfast for a week with my family for an Irish Dance competition. On Halloween night, we were stuck at the competition late and on my way home I stopped at this pub for a pint of beer and a burger for a late dinner around 9:15pm... The bar tender told me that they stopped serving food around... More

The John Hewitt is located in the Cathedral district of central Belfast. It is an old fashioned Irish pub serving a fantastic variety of beers. Pub lunch is a proper pub lunch e.g. sausages, steak sandwich or fish and chips. Lovely atmosphere where you could easily spend a very pleasant afternoon.

We got caught in the rain and stumbled across this pub for a bit of shelter, to get warm. What better way than with an Irish Coffee before lunch. This is the only place I have ever been asked how much sugar I wanted before the coffee was made, so the drink was served ready. Usually, you end up spoiling... More

My family loves coming here. The art. The food. The staff are all top quality! I think the ethos behind this pub and the history of it are so interesting. Absolutely the place to be on May Day! Couldn't recommend it enough!
